Trump is systematically dismantling the institutions that make this country work. Why?

Ahh, no no, you see there's your problem.

Trump is dismantling the institutions that audit the institutions that make this country work in order to make sure they are working.

You can't systematically loot, rob, pillage, and set fire to the coffers of America if that pesky fire alarm is still working.

Of course, the various OIGs and the GAO have been sounding the alarm for three years now but Trump posted a stupid video on twitter so let's talk about that instead.

I have told this before, but it's funny: Right after the election, NPR interviewed someone in the UK about Brexit. Instead of addressing Brexit, the woman started carrying on about Trump, and how he was ruining the country, and why the hell didn't we do something about that, because it was a much worse problem than Brexit. She says, "We're just sitting over here watching him dismantle the entire government, and we don't know what you guys are doing!"

Needless to say, that segment wasn't re-broadcast later.

Russia can't destroy us from outside, so they're doing it from the inside

We were already on an inescapable downward spiral once he gutted the State department. Biden will spend 8 years patching holes and baling water but never get us to the same place we were.

What if the Inspectors General really were militarized. Think it over.

As it is, the Inspectors have evidence or reasonable suspicions of crimes, they can't do anything and are getting fired.

So why can't they get a battering ram, raid Trump out of his spider hole and into an interrogation room?

This is the flipside of systemic racism. Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, Roger Stone, Michael Flynn, Harvey Weinstein, etc, these assholes committed serious crimes involving large sums of money, espionage, and rape but got cushy treatment. They feel emboldened to commit these crimes because guys like them don't get knees on their necks.

Now Trump is firing many of the folks that need to police him.

Trump isn't smart enough or coherent enough or consistent enough to orchestrate a bubble bath.  Rich pukes at Mar a Largo that Trump thinks are his friends and people like Bannon, Hannitty, and crazy Rudy have all got his ear to bend and that's why you end up with this chaotic farkery that goes on night and day.

And Trump chases every Russian dangle so I'm sure they're pushing and pulling levers of influence on him and his stupid soulless children to get what they want.

what a farking mess

2020-06-19 6:59:53 PM
Well, yeah. First he got rid of anyone who he thought might 25th Amendment him, now he's getting rid of everyone who has or can investigate him or his crotch fruit. Not surprised; totally expected.

And he keeps getting away with all of it while people wring their hands and ask, "How can he do this?"

FYI: We've been lied to all of our lives about how great US democracy is because of the protection provided by separation of powers. Get the Right people, and a sociopathic executive, in the right places at the same time and the whole things falls apart. And very quickly too.

Democrats ought to want to militarize the Inspectors General to oversee Trump and the Republicans can be talked into it because they're known to make life hard on their way out the door after losing elections, they can be sold on doing it as a way to talk them into voting for Biden. Like hey Republicans, he's not exactly what you want but he'll be watched.

Biden will behave, so there's no problem. Let's do it!

Really, it turns out that the US system was just a big joke all along and all it took was one man to tear it up and shiat all over it as his party stood by complicit in it's dismantlement.

You can say, but, but, we'll recover when we vote him out but will you? Really? Certainly not on the international side and domestically you're one spark away from a full on race war as the bigots and racists are coming out of the woodwork faster than they can be put down.

You're now also set up with an either largely biased or incompetent judicial system as the GOP has installed unqualified toadies in almost half the positions and the rule of law doesn't apply to those it needs to the most.

With a joke this large, why aren't ya'll laughing?

Because we heard the joke before when George W. Bush was flailing around with his treason.

AND IT WASNT FUNNY THE FIRST TIME.

Why do you believe in American exceptionalism if you're so down on America?

This isn't new, or unique, or even the first stable and democratic country to run off the rails in THIS DECADE.

The system always assumes some base level of normative "good faith actors" in the system. People break 1 or 2 rules and are punished.

Then an elected someone comes along and shiats on all the rules, and does it so often that the system becomes paralyzed as it debates with itself over whether or not this or that action violates this or that rule. Meanwhile, the elected someone has already moved on and is breaking some new rule or some new norm.

Putin did it and does it. Ergoden did it - Turkey was considered a model of Muslim democracy only a few years prior. Duerte did it.

Bolsonaro.

Modi.

Orban .

The list goes on. You don't needHitler comparisons, there are dozen of modern examples.

Why do you think America is so exceptional that we would be immune altogether?

I don't think 'Merica is exceptional at all, I live next door for crying out loud and I'm farkin' pissed watching all the until recently closeted assholes around here come out emboldened to talk crap. There are a couple premiers in this country that wouldn't be if Trump was never elected in the first place normalizing this horrible and selfish behavior. The domino effect, it's not just for communism, fascists like it too.

I told my daughter I wasn't sure if the country was gone yet but it looked grim. She had a nervous laugh then saw I was serious. It got quiet for a bit.

At this point, we literally only have one plan left to keep America from becoming an "elected dictatorship"... voting Trump out in November.  Everything else has failed... turns out American Presidents are actually quite a bit more powerful than the constitutional monarchs we replaced.

Some fools embrace 'strict' religious beliefs. Others adhere equally fervently to political, racial, or economic 'theories'.

The common theme here is the need to belong.

If the fad isn't working, it's always the fault of the 'others'...
