Whenever a politician or religious leader says homosexual conduct is a choice, they are telling you that they themselves have chosen to act straight despite their own impulses.  The more a politician cares about policing other people's sexuality, the more likely they are having a hard time controlling their own.

NTTAWWT, only there is because self righteous hypocrisy hurts innocent and harmless people.

I'm trying to find the interview with the anti-gay preacher where he openly says that if it weren't for biblical law men would be all over each other in a big sweaty pile of fabulous humpitude, but I'm not finding it and now my search history is going to lead to some really interesting ads being served up over the next few days.

Here's the fun part: it doesn't farking matter.

Both this decision, and Obergefell preceding it, were not decided by extending anything or carving out a new group for special consideration. Both decisions observe that gender discrimination is an intrinsic characteristic of LGBTQ discrimination, as stated by Gorsuch thusly:

"The statute's message for our cases is equally simple and momentous: An individual's homosexuality or transgender status is not relevant to employment decisions. That's because it is impossible to discriminate against a person for being homosexual or transgender without discriminating against that individual based on sex." (I have no idea how to cite this properly, but it's from Bostock).

He goes on to illustrate this with a couple examples, of which I thought this was the best:

"Imagine an employer who has a policy of firing any employee known to be homosexual. The employer hosts an office holiday party and invites employees to bring their spouses. A model employee arrives and introduces a manager to Susan, the employee's wife. Will that employee be fired? If the policy works as the employer intends, the answer depends entirely on whether the model employee is a man or a woman. To be sure, that employer's ultimate goal might be to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. But to achieve that purpose the employer must, along the way, intentionally treat an employee worse based in part on that individual's sex." (Again from Bostock).

The interesting thing about the US creeping into the modern social world is that the American corporate world never went with the incrementalism of a DADT-similar policy. Instead, the right of a business to know of and pass judgement upon an employee is unquestioned - only the judgement itself has been determined to be invalid.

I suppose the more favorable interpretation may be that the US is moving fast enough that they didn't need incrementalism, but wouldn't employers find out in other ways - signing for health insurance, asking for info of next of kin, and so on, rendering incrementalism impossible?

I guess that amounts to a bit of libertarian-style wank, but idk, it seems like corporations have too much control over workers and nobody batted a single eye on the way.

Well, the actual ruling is that when a company deems conduct acceptable for one sex and not for another sex, then they are really discriminating based on sex.

Take a male dating another male.  His employer finds out and fires him.  But that same employer would have been supportive of that conduct if the employee was a female.  So the employer doesn't disapprove of the conduct; they disapprove of the gender of the person engaging in the conduct.  Therefore the employer is discriminating based on the sex of the employee, and is in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

Hedge fund managers and stock brokers deserve to be bullied by Christians. They shouldn't be welcome in churches for spreading their sinful ways.

I'm still waiting for all the bad things to happen that republicans warned us about. You know, the caravans of immigrants, the bathrooms by gender, Disney pushing their gay agenda, the removal of prayer in schools. It's almost like they find some pointless BS to stir up their base.

Trump elected? God's chosen one! Obama elected? The devil is taking our country away!  It's  amazing how Mo feels his right to be a haterasexual Christian means you only love your neighbor if they are white, well to do Christians. This is one of the things that drives me nuts about this discussion. I've been a manager most of my life.  It's difficult enough to find people who can communicate well, perform a job function effectively and who have decent attendance to work.  

Who gives a flyin' fark what sort of package good employees come in?

Some of the worst employees I've had, people who I had to show the door, looked just like me.

Hiring or not hiring people based on gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, military service, religion and a whole host of other stuff that is inconsequential to how good or bad of a job they do is not just illegal.  It's terrible managing.  If you hire on anything else than performance you suck at your own job.

The reality is this guy loved the ruling because he doesn't truly care if some churchy can't fire a gay employee, but he does care that he gets to tell the churchy that he opposes it while never having to do anything about it.

They'll get to run on this for decades.
