Dra. Paulina Luisi.

First woman in Uruguay to get a B.A. She then went on to medical school, where things like this happened: "As the first female medical student, Paulina faced a lot of harassment from her classmates. One day, Luisi found a severed human penis in the pocket of her lab coat. Luisi reportedly waited until class was over, when she held up the offending member and asked her all-male classmates, Did one of you lose this?'

My kind of BAMF lady. Had a huge career in politics later.

Charles M Schultz (creator of Peanuts) and Gene Roddenberry (creator of Star Trek).

Both used their media platforms to push for integration of minorities in everyday life, often despite direct threats to their lives and careers.  While many of their creations have statues in various parts of the country neither has a public statue of themselves to honor their personal achievements.

That's awesome! I did a high school paper on her years ago, and have read here and there on her ever since.

She is a family point of pride. What a tremendous career she had. How did you hear about her?

My father. He was a self taught sculptor who has works from Yellowstone to Washington DC.

This is his sculpture of a grizzly bear in Yellowstone. He worked on it for months in our living room until it was cut in two, bronzed, and shipped to the grizzly bear conservatory in Yellowstone.

This statue in Varberg, Sweden commemorates the day of 13 April 1985 when local woman Danuta Danielsson whopped Neo Nazi Seppo Seluska with her handbag. She became a local hero.

In my 10th grade world history, we had to spin a globe and randomly pick a country, then find someone worth knowing about and write a research paper on that person. I landed on Uruguay. I think I found a book about interesting people of South America and landed on her name. She sounded interesting in the short blurb, then I came across anecdotes about her and really thought she seemed awesome. So I researched.
I'd be really proud if she were in my family!

Happy to provide it. Also, I remembered the penis anecdote but wast too lazy to write it myself. I copy/pasted from this, which you and your family may find interesting:

My cousin (another Luisi gal) is also an historian. She has traced the Luisi name back to San Michele di Bari, a little town on the Adriatic coast, and the name comes from a group of folks who were in personal service to Louis IX.

Parts of southern Italy were held by the French back then.

Also inspired Meowth of all things to have a damn good quote himself.

Here's one I wouldn't mind seeing.  The guy in the center is Charles Pickering, an astronomer around the turn of the century who was doing the first real sky survey and needed people to do the immense amount of work cataloging and classifying millions of objects.  His crop of grad students wasn't working hard enough and he commented one day "My Scottish maid could do better!"

So he hired her.  Williamina Fleming did so well he ended up hiring more than a dozen more women who effectively invented modern astronomy- a number ended up as Ph.Ds at a time when women scientists usually got a pat on the head and an order for a sammich

I'd also suggest Vera Rubin, the woman who should have gotten the Nobel Prize for finding the evidence for dark matter (and of course didn't) but she's getting something better
