Every Matt Taibbi article.
Fark user imageView Full Size

It's a sweet gimmick though.  It allows him to play the intellectual outsider role, while offering no actual alternative but a wall of text.  Everyone who tells me to read Matt Taibbi has confused volume for quality.  They're the people who would tout that they got through "War and Peace".

Taibbi has been parroting Russian talking points for awhile. This isn't new

2020-06-16 9:45:58 AM
Oh wow, yes, let's defend James Bennett, who didn't even bother to read the Cotton piece and should resign for that alone (you had one job!). And Adam Rappaport, who was criminally underpaying the people who kept the lights on at Bon Appétit, because they weren't all WASPy.

Two paragons of journalism for sure. Definitely needed defending.

He did a good job a decade ago understanding the mortgage crisis but veered into sensationalism quickly because explaining securitization makes readers sleepy.

Then he disappeared from real journalism and now he's just a wordy op-ed guy, I guess. Easier than reading financial reports all day...

I view him as Tucker Carlson type contrarian, without the overt racism.

He's got the same weirdly pro russia stance that trump has for some reason.

Never really got his schtick.

Yup, here we go: https://www.fark.com/comments/10848383/Short-answer-No-Long-answer-Nooooooooooooo

I don't remember where i came across it, but there's an article that disputed the 2 points about the professor getting fired, and the person who retweeted the protest study. Since i can't remember where i saw the article, i'll summarize: Taibbi is a liar. Neither of those examples happened how he portrays them.

FTA:

Our president, Donald Trump, is a clown who makes a great reality-show villain but is uniquely toolless as the leader of a superpower nation. Watching him try to think through two society-imperiling crises is like waiting for a gerbil to solve Fermat's theorem.

I rather like that formulation.

Seriously guys.  Someone writes this is who we designate as a Russian-bot controlled enemy?  Because why -- he thinks "our side" (which really isn't) is not above criticism?

2020-06-16 10:06:37 AM
Not my hero. He's just this guy, y'know?

He reminds me of how, a couple decades ago, Bartcop used to introduce a Maureen Dowd comment with the tagline "she hates everybody". Taibbi's always been like that. Nothing inherently wrong with that, I guess. One finds inspiration where one can. And sometimes I've agreed with him, sometimes I haven't.

Having said that, his viewpoint's seemed a little wackier in recent years, compared to the W. Bush era.

2020-06-16 10:06:49 AM
Both the Left and the Right had dissidents who point out they are both on the same side. I don't agree with everything he says but he was right about Russiagate.

I have seen several "the left has lost its mind" articles over the last few days. I don't know where the secret command bunker is but it's always obvious when a new bunch of talking points has been issued.

Oh sweet, another thread where Farkers who have probably read less than one Matt Taibbi article over their entire lifetime explaining how farking terrible Matt Taibbi is.

Someone recommended a Matt Tabbi book to me a while back, when I went to look for it I found that he was releasing it chapter by chapter on his website for a subscription fee. No thanks.

His article is surprisingly more complicated than those six words.

2020-06-16 10:09:53 AM
Carlson, Taibbi, Shapiro... they all use variants of the same basic tactic: baffle them with bullshiat.

Carlson with indignation and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Taibbi with quantity and the occasional three dollar word
Shapiro by being the Micro Machines commercial guy

It's all still the same ingredients: bullshiat, hate, and stupidity.

When half of the left tells the other half of the left that they need to beg for their lives in a manner that the focus groups approve of, a bunch of right wingers write dems in disarray/loony left articles.

There's plenty of coordination within the right wing, but sometimes the opportunity to attack is so obvious even the right wingers can spot it.

Concentrated corporate media is susceptible to adversarial meddling.

There needs to be a return to sensible regulation of media ownership. Like it was in 1995.

Is this the Rolling Stone guy who ran a paper in Russia that judged female staffers on Fuc%/bility?

Well, the important thing is that Taibbi has found a way to feel superior to both sides.

Right.  Because the concept that someone could be on Russia's payroll is laughable on its face.  I mean, they don't pay real people anyway, just Twitter trolls like @MandyAmerican69 and @RealDonaldTrump.

Taibbi is a disgruntled Bernie supporter.  As if there is any other kind.

A lot of his criticism of the democratic party and liberals would be more palatable if he didn't filter it through his hero worship of Sanders.

The rest of the world thinks Russia is better governed than the United States currently.  Evil mastermind Vladimir Putin has more worldwide support and respect than the current insane clown President currently running the US into the ground.  The US is a bigger laughingstock than Russia by a wide margin.

So there's that.

The weird thing is is I don't believe The eXile had a pro-Russian government/pro-Putin stance, even though it was based there.

Taibbi moved to Russia in the 90s and worked there for 6 years... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Taibbi) so yeah he knows a few Ruskies...

I do appreciate some of his articles and there was some truth in his current wall of text. However his schtick is to point at everything to the left of centrism as a Marxist coup.

It definitely can't be those things! It is the article writer who is wrong! Plus I heard from very reputable sources he lived in Russia, or works for Russia, of actually maybe he is Putin so it's safe to ignore him.

Perhaps there are some shorter articles on CNN more to your liking.
