Unfortunately it's not such a serious business at JFK:

After collecting my bag and walking out to my ride home, it struck me that I was given zero advice on how to protect others from the possibility of infection after coming into the country. While Israel has already designed a quarantine regimen that appears to have limited spread (most new cases in the country these days have come from reopened schools while nearly 70% of the cases during the height of the outbreak could be traced back to arrivals from America), and places like Hong Kong are starting to test upon arrival before mandatory quarantine as well. But at JFK? Nothing. I, along with my fellow passengers, grabbed our bags and walked right out into New York City.

Depressing stuff.

the day I arrived in Israel, President Trump had said that things were all going to "work out" and things were still relatively normal at home

Yeah, but you saw the source and knew the opposite must be true, right?  Goddam it sucks to read about other countries and know that everyone can see our leader is the bastard son of Leeroy Jenkins Baghdad Bob.

Sorry, go ahead and drink, TFA just brought home again how farking humiliating it is

The governor claims that the Department of Homeland Security is the only agency with a mandate to screen passengers, but the federal government hasn't acted yet.

I've said it before, but if there's any way to fark this up Donnie will find it.

I hate flying.  It sucks to be stuck in a cramped seat for hours, not able to fall asleep and nothing but shiatty movies I've already seen to watch.  I fly to London every year for work.  That didn't happen (yay?).  What also didn't happen was my vacation in Japan that I had finally saved up enough money to do in style.  It's past the great spring weather which is the best time in Japan, so next year, I guess.  Unless China decides to plague the world again.

I'm betting this guy was a hypochondriac long before Covid came along.

Yet, with all of the advisors, think tanks, and government officials with years of experience to give recommendations, people still think this is incompetence?

Have you flown Emirates airlines?
While size-wise the economy seats are not much better, the quality is.
And if you fly that often you can upgrade on night flights to a business class that REALLY is at a different level.

And it would take you a while to go through their media selection of movies, TV shows and podcasts.

For work, I don't get to choose the airline.  By default, it's American Airline.  Please kill me.

Don't worry, I'm sure American Airlines are on it.

The experience there was also largely normal, but the lack of crowds made it a lot easier for me to have my film hand-checked.

He's trolling, right?

Yep, the rest of the world soon isn't going to bother with mandatory quarantines for Americans. We're going to be outright banned from traveling anywhere until we get our sh*t under control, and we pretty much deserve it too.

Those smoking booths are disgusting. They leak at a great rate and pollute the surrounding area with the entitled stink of the occupants. Better to make the farkers deal with withdrawal.

Geneva departures has a lovely smoking area, it's like a modern lounge bar, and air conditioned. They keep it very clean, bit it still stinks.

But can you still get a smoking ticket?

If you ban smoking entirely, people will still find a way to feed their addiction which could make it worse.
Been to an airport in Moscow, there were large signs in the restrooms and outside of 'no smoking' and you could almost see the cloud of smoke coming out of the restrooms.

I'm guessing that depends on where you are. In Australia, smoking is banned in airports and pretty much anywhere indoors, and it's bloody well enforced. I know that I've been in parts of the wold where the bathrooms reeked of smoke, but that's just lax enforcement and cultural acceptance.

Most of these people are about to get on an aircraft, or just got off one. If they can hold it on the plane, they can hold it long enough to get out of the airport.

Relatively speaking, maybe. I wouldn't call Israel's current government 'functional' Mr. Vulture.
Maybe functional in the sense of allowing a corrupt Prime Minister to continue and evade jail by literally handing the country and its resources to the Ultra Orthodox lunatics.
