I thought they moved the Paterno statue to the library to remind everyone to keep quiet?

Elegy: I thought they moved the Paterno statue to the library to remind everyone to keep quiet?

Keeping everyone quiet was his job, after all.

Where's Thomas Jefferson? Or is that stepping on the slippery slope?

Not at all.  I would think both he AND Washington are fair game.

Thomas Jefferson was the Nathan Bedford Forrest of his time.

The whole athletic program should have been nuked from orbit, and any NCAA athlete in any sport at that school given a consequence-free transfer and full-ride anywhere they wanted.

Statues represent our ideals and values.  A statue to Jefferson would be there because of his work in framing the existence of this nation.  A statue to Jefferson is not a monument to having sex with slaves.

A statue to Nathan Bedford Forrest, on the other hand, is a monument to the Klan.  It has no other meaning.

I'm not sure what a statue to Paterno represents.  A time when the football team was good?  Seems like a monument to nostalgia.

Good luck with that one.   Armed douchenozzles are a dime a dozen in Happy Valley and they would be happy to protect their beloved leader's image.

Agreed, which is why I voted yes for Forrest and no for George Washington (as did the vast majority of respondents). But since the authors saw fit to include Washington on the survey, they might as well have included Jefferson.

I think he's more like the JFK of his time.  Left some great phrases for us to repeat, but his actual record runs the gamut from 'meh' to 'dear lord, that's terrible'

Well, thank all that is holy that Penn State didn't trade their trinkets for discounted tattoos.  THAT was the end of civilization as we knew it, according to way too many people.

Yeah let's get that Ray Lewis statue down.

Absolutely correct. And from the school who's only cover up sexual assault on its students and domestic violence. A beacon of class and decency.
