While I completely agree in principle with your statement, there may be some truth to Governor Trump-Humper's words.

I am not familiar with the situation in north central FL, but in the southern central parts of the state, there seem to be 2 types of areas with the highest number of cases.  The more populated areas with higher numbers of elderly and the areas where a lot of the agricultural workers live; Indiantown, Belle Glade, Clewiston, Immokalee.

FL DOH map by zip code:
Fark user imageView Full Size

For instance, in Martin County (where I'm farking around), there have been almost 1200 cases. Nearly 500 from Indiantown, nearly 300 from south Stuart, about 170 in Stuart.  (Stuart and south Stuart are not agricultural, but have a higher demographic of less affluent folks.)  In all of the more affluent areas, the total cases are under 100.  Indiantown has a large Hispanic population with a lot of them performing agricultural work.  You'll see several old school buses full of workers being transported to/from the various farms on any given day.

it likely is spreading among farm workers.  farm workers often live together in close living conditions because that's the most economical thing to do.  They'll also work when they're sick because they can't afford not to.

Hillbillies are always like "Commiefornia", but have you been to California?  The central valley is completely filled with Okies.  Even more Okies than Oklahoma.  And then San Bernadino, which is like the Ozarks, but with more littering.  Real Americans have no idea how much they would feel perfectly at home in California.

Yes, it is spreading among workers who don't have the luxury of working from home or not working at all.

But Republicans are using it as an excuse to whip up fear and hatred towards "immigrants! immigrants!".

The blue state intent was to starve out the virus. The red state intent was to simply find a transmission/infection level where people can die at a consistent manageable rate that won't overwhelm the hospitals.

Good thing those farm workers that they are blaming don't participate in the things that other Floridians do, like grocery shop, go to gas stations, drug stores, the DMV offices, etc..  I wouldn't be surprised if Governor Numbnuts decides that farm workers must be quarantined to the farm and housing only until everything passes.  I mean, it's not like harvest time for watermelons, tomatoes, sweet corn, peppers, or cucumbers runs until October in FL.

Add to that, re-opening theme parks and theaters, reopening schools, and college football season...you're basically looking at 'Rona until there is a vaccine.  The GOP has dug in their heels and now we get to watch the numbers keep going up.  Rather than take sensible measures to slow things to where they could be minimized, we're going to just take the batteries out of the smoke detectors.  Good jerb.

Coincidentally, Mexico is run by a populist president who dismissed the seriousness of COVID-19, insisted it would be no big deal, has dragged his feet on taking measures to combat it, and has pushed for reopening against the wishes of governors. That all sounds vaguely familiar. Government policy has been to test only patients showing severe symptoms, leading to very high rate of positive tests.

As opposed to what?  The Democratic fantasy land where we all stay locked inside for the next year until a vaccine is developed?  That doesn't work either.

California's numbers are because of So Cal and mostly in Los Angeles County.

All the 'red state within the blue state' areas seem to be doing okay and boy are they smug about it. I had a colleague brag last Friday that in San Joaquin Valley that they're not wearing masks and have only had 26 people die so far - so this whole danger thing is overblown.

I was asked to social distance. To stay home. To give up hours and pay. Heck, I literally had a family member die... Alone... Not because I care about getting sick; but for the greater good.

A proud American, a good neighbor, doing the right thing at great personal cost, to benefit others.

It only works if we all do it, and I forgot how much trash we have in this country. That's on me. How stupid I was. From all levels of the government screwing it up, from the incorrect/misleading information the public was fed regarding the effectiveness of masks, to the ridiculous and awful ways they decided to determine eligibility for the stimulus, the ridiculous classifications they used for 'essential', andfor the thousands, if not millions, of people who just completely and utterly took a steaming dump over everything we were all supposed to do, and attended protesters with thousands of people... And the medical professionals who changed their tune just as soon as it was a gathering they felt was something they wanted to support.... Small funeral for my grandfather? Too dangerous....funeral for a someone else attended by celebrities and politicians who didn't even know him.... that's fine. And let's not forget all the young healthy, rich, and famous people who were getting tested, even without symptoms. Months later, my doctor literally told me I was low risk, and could only get tested at the public drive through site, 45 minutes from my house with hour long wait times and no guarantee they will have enough supplies each day.

Literally every aspect of this has been an utter failure. And now, we are calling people out for not continuing to follow 'the rules'

Ha. Ha. Ha.

I'm done. You do whatever you want; but I'm not going to inconvenience myself in the slightest. I may or may not be infected; I can't get a test without waiting in line for hours because of the increased demand following the protests that they now insist everyone get tested who attended... But you think I'm going to stay home and pay extra to have someone deliver groceries to my house?

Ha ha ha.

Fool me once...shame on you. Fool me 26 times... Shame on me.

So let's politicize the wearing of masks and call it a hoax... 6 weeks is all it would have taken ( if done with a national approach and financial support ) then you could've actually kept the death toll to a more reasonable total. You'd also have time to roll out the hotspot teams to contact trace and support local governments to quickly respond to outbreaks. You know like most other developed nations did.

You do know that California isn't some monolithic block of "blue" right?  The Central Valley (known for such liberal stalwarts as Nunes and McCarthy) has recently been plagued with an inordinate increase in cases.  I can't speak to the situation in Florida or Oregon, but I can speak to the willfully ignorant assholes that surround me here in central California.

That Florida tag is laughable. We got it on a whim due to lockboxes showing up in dumpsters, but only 30% of our population is native.

Which says at least two things:

1. Stastically speaking, the misdeeds attributed to "Floridians" are more than likely the handiwork of another state's village idiot.

2. If Florida is so awful, why do all of you keep coming here/retiring here.

That said, Desantis is a dummy and the RNC in Jax is going to be a nightmare. Imagine Opera giving out cars but the cars are Covid 19.

And Sweden was a dumpster fire.
