Bibi better be careful, if the protests turn violent, the mazel tov cocktails could start flying.

Why would somebody divide by OGX? Just divide by zero and get it over with.

All that money, and the poor guy still can't afford a face mask.

That's the real scandal here.

No shiat. He's pretty confident that he won't face any real consequences for his corruption, so why the fark wouldn't he continue it?

He managed to fail to lose, what, 3 elections in a row in the span of a year? As long as their is no consensus around an alternative he will continue to have the authority to be beyond reproach.

The alternative (Gantz) is a sliiiiiiightly less land-stealy Bibi, without the corruption. Americans love to say that our parties(' candidates) are the same, but take a look at Bibi vs Benny, and try to tell me with a straight face they have less in common than Trump and Biden (even accounting for Trump/Bibi's "l'etat, c'est moi" corruption).

// the Israeli left, much like the American left for the last 50 years, is increasingly without a political home

This is all very true.

The collapse of the peace process and the horrors of the Second Intifada in the early 2000s -- with near-daily suicide bombings -- pretty much destroyed the Israeli left wing. Israelis, still dealing with PTSD even today, lurched to the right. To them (rightly or wrongly), those events showed that the Palestinians can never be trusted to coexist peacefully with a country of their own.

So, a majority of Israelis went to the center-right or right wing. The main debate has been whether to keep the Palestinians in limbo forever, annex most or all of the West Bank, or agree to a very limited version of a Palestinian state. To these Israelis, even the very idea of voting for a "liberal" now conjures images of blown up buses and the bodies of dead children.

And meanwhile, the Israeli left is very divided among five or six small parties (I lose count). It's hard to build a credible opposition that way.

And the headline is also funny because "efes" can mean "loser" and well as "zero."

"Efes" is also the main beer brand in Turkey, for what it's worth.
