I'm not normally a man of religion, but the random Ex Machinas happening as of late that keep throwing setbacks to the current Antichrist have made me wonder whether years of peace really are right around the corner. This shiat has been straight out of Revelation, likely because this cycle has happened so many times throughout history on smaller scales that someone generalized and committed them in Revelation thousands of years ago.

This has been the constant of US politics for five decades now - Republicans commit crimes, Democrats refuse to prosecute them. The US will not survive the next Republican presidency if Trump and his goons are not thrown into the stockade.

I'd say that Barr is competent enough to do the fairly minimal CYA needed to avoid real consequences when working as a lawyer for the federal government, but the fact that he willingly signed up to work for the Trump administration empirically means he almost inevitably isn't.

Barr? As far as I know, he does not.

By law, the Secret Service is authorized to protect:
- The president, the vice president, (or other individuals next in order of succession to the Office of the President), the president-elect and vice president-elect
- The immediate families of the above individuals
- Former presidents, their spouses, except when the spouse re-marries
- Children of former presidents until age 16
- Visiting heads of foreign states or governments and their spouses traveling with them, other distinguished foreign visitors to the United States, and official representatives of the United States performing special missions abroad
- Major presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election
- Other individuals as designated per Executive Order of the President and
- National Special Security Events, when designated as such by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

It would take an executive order, as it's not under the normal purview of the USSS, and that executive order wouldn't likely last past next January.

That's a lovely thought and my first impulse, but had some issues with similar imagery being removed for some reason by the mods in a recent thread.

Joe Biden has too much faith in the systems that have failed us, and isn't willing to set the precedent of investigating and punishing the previous administration. He would rightly recognize that's a thing only corrupt countries do, regardless of how justified it is, and would say it's time to heal and move on.

2020-06-12 7:23:48 PM
Here's a creepy fact, though - there's a remote possibility that Donald Trump & Chad Wolf could deny USSS protection to Biden during the 2020 campaign:

The Secret Service DOES NOT determine who qualifies for protection, nor is the Secret Service empowered to independently initiate candidate protection.
Under 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7), "[m]ajor Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates," as identified by the Secretary of Homeland Security, are eligible for Secret Service protection.

Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) authorizes the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for major presidential and vice presidential candidates:
Protection is authorized by the DHS Secretary after consultation with the Congressional Advisory Committee
The Congressional Advisory Committee includes: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and one additional member selected by the others

He's so far been the most capable employee in terms of accomplishing his goals.

Also, I'm pretty sure the only real crime he's committed is obstruction of justice, and even under a very diligent administration, that's going to be a hard one to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. I guess there's abetting after the fact, but while he's a treason-weasel like the people he's protecting, as far as we've seen, he's mostly just responsible for protecting that.

It's not like he locked up children in sub-human conditions or violently assaulted peaceful protests personally, he just tried to shield the people which have done so. He's a despicable human being, but I think out of everyone still left (except maybe Miller, who has avoided limelight), he's most likely to skate real consequences.

I'm not supposed to have my wife beaten, drugged, and kidnapped to cover up the president's crimes? Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, 'cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time.

Members of the Nixon administration were investigated during the Nixon and Ford administrations, weren't they?  How much was left for the Carter administration to do?  I don't recall any accusations of Carter being a sore winner or punishing Republicans for being Republicans, but that is for certain what will happen if the next administration tries to do anything at all about this one.

I suppose Lindsay Graham's utter and complete selling out of his principles, such as they were, WOULD qualify him for the role of Whore of Babylon.

ALL of Trump's cabinet needs to be investigated and prosecuted.  Abuse of power is a crime and Trump's people have been doing it in spades.  I am less enthusiastic about going after Trump, Graham and McConnell - not because their crimes are less, but because they were elected.  If we're going to be a democracy, we have to allow for the stupidity of the electorate.  Also, it's very third worldish to throw your political opponents in jail.
