Katja Heintschel von Heinegg, head of Germany's Advertisting Standards Council said: "the company has withdrawn the advert, and clearly distanced itself from the content."

You guys, it's fine. They've socially distanced themselves.

Reading the whole thing it makes a whole lot more sense now. Actually it seems pretty not racist as it was the guy's white girlfriend messing with him in the ad. The fact that they didn't think that the ad in isolation would cause issues kind of shows they weren't really thinking about race.

There in lies the catch 22 of the situation we have.

IF you see no race, like the word has no meaning to you, it is a fantasy to believe in it, and it is impossible to try and describe another human within that box to you. great.

But then it is a subjective world isn't it?

IF that other person does see race, does believe in it, and to them they have a racial leniently that is important and does define who they see themselves as, and how you ought to see them too.

Then they do and from their POV that other POV is being racially insensitive, if not outright racists.

Judging from the photo at the top of the article I thought it was going to be something about Asian women walking 3 steps behind their husbands/boyfriends

Yep that is true. Also the restaurant being called Le Petit Colon "little colonist" doesn't actually mean what most think it does. That term "le Petit Colon" would have been applied to a north African colonist, but not the type most would think. It actually was used to describe very poor french peasants who were landless and worked the farms of the wealthy land owners in the colonies. Basically the equivalent of a sharecropper. I have no idea what type of food it serves but based on the name it should be french peasant dishes with north African influence.

FFS....."This advert is tasteless. It is deeply racist. So deeply, that one has no idea where to start,"

Yeah, that's the first thing that came to me.

You know what else?  Those racist bastards are selling cars with Black tires.

Something needs to be done.
