All of the bees, including the queen were safely taken to a local farm.

All of them? What about the one who was out scouting for flowers a half mile away and came back to find her house was gone?

Oh, she'll probably just hunt down and kill every human she can find.

I'm an amateur bee-keeper who has helped a contractor-friend (who also has more experience keeping bees) with removing a hive from a house. He calls it a 'cut-out' and it was pretty fun. After cutting open the wall, he lashes the comb into wooden frames and then stores them in a 'Langstroth' wooden hive chamber. The returning bees are isolated using a hand-made vacuum system into a mesh chamber until they can all be combined together back into the new hive at the end of the job. The wall is repaired and he comes back the next day to gather any remaining bees who are looking for the opening. He recently borrowed my thermal camera (Seek), so I hope he gets some of the same pictures!

Can you imagine what that sounded like from inside the house? Ya gotta wonder what the neighbors thought they were up to.

"Buzzing sounds and gallons of honey?  Uh, no, it wasn't sexy stuff.... uh, no, that's crazy.  No, I don't have an epi pen fetish...  We have, uhhhhh, wall bees... that's it, wall bees."

Someone called his bluff, and he spent two weeks installing a bee colony in the guest room.

Next time, just say "yeah, it was sex stuff".

"As we were finishing up the removal, another swarm of bees moved in and were trying to move into the house," Glover said. "So, we were able to capture a second queen in the swarm. So, we left with two complete colonies of bees."

Did they build the house over an old Indian burial ground or something?

You no idea how many conversations I didn't want to be in I have been able to completely derail by dropping the old "Yeah, it was sex stuff." line.

A couple weeks ago my wife noticed a swarm of bees in the tree in our yard.  We found some local beekeepers who came by and collected them.  Made for an interesting Sunday morning.

This is why it is kind of important to remove all the comb and honey. Instead of just the bees  That and it melting on hot days when the bees would ventilate it and it coming through the walls.
