Man, when they start measuring racism in America in Rhode Islands, it's game over, man. Game. Over.

But seriously - how farked up is this (my bold):

Firefighter Terrell Paci, 23, told WPRI-TV in an emotional interview Friday that he was on duty in uniform, sitting in a car outside of his fire station and chatting with his friend who was dropping off food, when two police officers approached him with guns drawn.

The officers, who have not been identified, demanded to know if he was armed, according to Paci.
"I was dressed in full uniform and had my radio in hand," said Paci, who spoke to the news station at a protest rally that drew over 10,000 people.

"I was like, 'I'm a firefighter, I'm PFD, I'm one of you - don't shoot,' and they still kept approaching the vehicle with guns drawn," Paci said as he fought back tears.

One of the officers searched Paci's friend's car before leaving, he said. A Providence police sergeant went to the fire station hours later and apologized after the incident was caught on body camera footage, Paci said.

And if it hadn't been caught on bodycam, there would have been absolutely no repercussions whatsoever. Fark all racists, but especially fark all racist cops, who are supposed to serve and protect, not serve themselves and deflect.

This is fine, and doesn't change my opinion of Allie's but I spent many years working in North Kingston.  The local NK police and RI State Police (there is a Barracks nearby) were generally well regarded, so don't take it as a reflection of those departments.

I was telling a friend yesterday that it's actually kind of great that police only hire stupid people. If they were smart they would know the whole world is watching now and if they behaved and showed restraint, most of it would just blow away.
Of course the cops are too dumb to realize this and day after day comes videos of them acting like the thugs they are, exposing the reality that the tree is rotten except for maybe a few good ones.

And double Fark the police unions that sustain that culture. We need legislative will to rein them in.
/nobody has job security like a cop
/citizen review panels with veto power over the unions would be a good start
