I didn't get the first one so I'm not exactly counting on a second. But just so the 1% gets their cut, that's what's important.

Just in time for the end of unemployment benefits, resurgent COVID, and mass layoffs following PPP expiration. It's going to be a spectacular runup to the election.

The extra money and support that the food banks have received isn't going to last forever, people will go hungry. For starters.

Yeah. The mass homelessness and starvation caused by the missed rents and mortgage payments and inability to pay for groceries is going to hit home soon....

Bleak stuff. I'm tired of this.

It might explain why Tom Cotton wrote that fascists bit of shiat for the Times.  A 'preview' of what the Republicans and WH have in store for the American people once the fecal matter really hits the oscillating unit.

Got my first stimulus check about a month ago, put it towards June/July rent, so I won't be homeless at least until August.  Yay.

They're not going to send a second check, because the first one actually did what it was supposed to do.  Which is socialism, and we can't have that.

/Yes, I know the $1200 we got was made up like 15-20% of the overall CARES act.

So, Blanche is 'worried' about the cost of food for people on Social Security?  Right...  Meanwhile, the GOP is gearing up to completely crush Social Security and Medicare and burn them to the ground.

The first one cost each of us $13,000. I don't want to see what another would cost.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that at least Forbes placed the blame squarely where it belongs by pointing out it's only Rs biatching about giving money to people who will immediately spend it instead of padding out tax haven accounts.

Pretty sure the Iraq war part deux cost all of us more than $13,000 per person, and I didn't get shiat out out of that.  At least this time I got 2 month's worth of rent out of it.

Bailouts are for corporations, not people.

Yes, corporations ARE people, of course, but shut up and starve anyhow.

Of course it did.

The GOP are hilariously terrified of this.

Well, I guess it makes sense that they're terrified since we basically just went more socialist than the majority of the west, and even on a temporary, aggressively sabotaged, and hastily half-assedly implemented, Universal Basic Income just very literally saved the entire country, in a manner obvious enough that even some of the right's base can see it despite their heads being up their asses.

In fact, it's been really visible that the UBI part of the relief bill has singlehandedly saved the country, and the other 85% of the money that was shoveled into the greedy maw of the corporate lobby has not helped at all, not even the businesses.  The lesson here is accessible enough that it's logical that they're worried that even their sabotage of the education system might not have given them voters stupid enough to ignore it.

... but I still find it funny.  Good luck coming back from this one, assholes.

True. The dum dums needing haircuts and in-person cheese grating at Wahlive Garden got their voices heard. As far as they are concerned it's still a fake hoax. And it's supposedly a win-win for the government. People go back to work and can pay for the 70% of the economy supporting the house of cards.

And when/if* Mr. Corona really kicks in? It will still be a hoax and no more shutdowns. A million deaths. Easy.

*If because who truly knows? Might be a small possibility it will fade to obscurity. I doubt it, but there is a small chance

I did not get a w2 from one employer, a temp agency named after the fruit of knowledge, and they like to make things hard for "talent" . I need to print out a request, and have the office ( which is doing it remotely ) somehow, sign and approve and forward it, in this case, to Glendale. I lack a printer and the library has been shut since a while.
The dental lab where I worked for about a year before the business got too slow to afford me had mine in my mail on time.
Now, I have not filed for years- I really did not have an income above about  5 grand or so for years.
SO, I could not really even ask for the stimulus check as a non filer, or a filer.
Madhonib got hers, she is fixed income, so she got it about the third week, which is typical ( so I heard ) .
She wanted a sink, so I had a fun friday night and a frustrating Saturday morning making that happen.

I have no point, but I kinda wanted to at least get new tires, and my drivers door wont open now and Acura dealers wont send me a damn picture of what I need to push or pull to make it open so the door panel can be removed so i can fix thne damn thing, but I could have sure used at least a partial check.

I count myself lucky though- we sell things to people and agencies who make things, so , although it is a job from hell, I have at least been working, and I get an hour for lunch, so I make that 7 minute drive to and from home and eat things I have cooked daily. Which is nice.

Yeah you would think the GOP idiots would at least try to buy some votes with more stimulus money. Nope they want to run everyone into the ground and give their wealthy friends no money. You would think they would be all about at least giving money until the election. Another short sighted greedy move on their part.

You dont need anything to ask for one as someone has not worked.

I got one for my mother, who has not worked in a pathedic amount of years.

I filled out a page or two online. Poof.  You can put in the req. as a non filer.

On the Senate funding a second stimulus check: "Unlikely" - Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT)

Interesting... Everyone else quoted was definitely making a personal statement. Mitt's could easily mean that he didn't think it would pass, not that he personally opposed it. Considering how big the Mormon church is on welfare, and how much aid they provide in disasters and such, I'm not entirely sure that this is Mitt hiding greed as much as stating that he doesn't think his colleagues would get on board.

How often do you check back? Don't just wait. We checked once a day (More than that is a waste of time, it's updated once a day overnight), and went from "No data", or whatever it was to "Your money is ready, we just need your bank info" one day. Nobody let us know though, we had to keep checking back.

I check several times a day.  Iniitially it showed no data, then asked for my direct deposit info which must've been over a month ago now.  Since it's been in the "You're eligible status, we'll let you know when the deposit is scheduled for your account".

It's a bit frustrating.

Dude, that sucks. Once we got the message about direct deposit, I think we waited a week and a half, only because we were mid week in the cycle. I hope you get it, even if you don't think you need it, it can be a bulwark against a later incident. We didn't really need ours at the time, but used it to get our credit card under control and pay down a loan some, and now that I got laid off, that helped us by clearing some debt in advance.

The conservative and/or Republican priority placed on not giving people aid because it'll make people not want to work seems insane to me in these conditions. There are a lot of people who are desperate to be able to work because a $1200 check is not even close to what they could be making. A second $1200 check isn't going to change that when this money is supposed to cover months of shutdowns. People need help now, not three months from now after the Republicans have been convinced that, yup, people need help.

For any conservative types who may be reading this, this complete lack of empathy for people is what made me leave the conservative side long ago. What the hell is wrong with all of you? If ever there was a time for the government to step up and help people isn't this it?

There will almost definitely be some purposefully timed "stimulus" before November. Enough to swing some barely hanging on swing voters, and plenty to line the pockets of a bunch of assholes.

Paraphrasing. Give the money to the workers. It will all end up in the pockets of the owner class, but at least someone had fun first.

Nope. Look at Rand Paul dragging his feet on a bipartisan anti-lynching law in the middle of an upheaval concerning race relations and the police.

Guaranteed there will be some asshole that blocks another stimulus.
