Standing by Cummings is stupid even for Boris. Typical Tory: "Rules for thee, not for me.".

It turns out not following rules is a family tradition for Dominic Cummins - his family illegally built the cottage he stayed at without planning permission. Anyone else would see their property demolished for such a breach, let's see if the rules apply evenly, my money is on 'No'.

Years ago, I read an article about Iran that was highlighting how Iranian leaders have a small, fervent following, but are generally unpopular overall.  The reasoning given was the populists are generally terrible managers.  They're good at whipping a crowd into a frenzy with rhetoric, but when it comes to get anything done, they're largely incompetent.  But that makes sense.  Competence isn't what got them the job.

Before people "point out the error" in any statistics: in the UK "approval rating" and "favourability rating" are usually given as net scores: positive minus negative.

I'm going to have to angrily quote another Farker: ain't nuthin' gonna happen. At least in the short to medium term. I wish I was wrong. Hopefully Keir Starmer will be able to walk a sane path between Blair's populism and Corbyn's authoritarianism, but right now I'm not that hopeful that he won't be sabotaged by Corbyn loyalists

I just ordered this bike jersey (from Primal Europe) - it will be lost on my biking friends here in the US, but I'll get the joke, and a percentage of sales goes to NHS charities.

Boris only got the job because Labor backstabbed their own Leader because he was too left. No really. They intentionally lost elections just to get rid of Corbyn.

Looking that up led to this amusing op-ed by Tom Peck in the Independent.

It's not wrong that the Parliamentary Labour Party hated him, but party members voted him for leader twice.

But it's been known since Kinnock's time that you have to be media savvy, and that he was not. The interviews where he was all "can I finish" and refusing to just apologise for anti-Semitism are awful. I mean, clearly, his opinion was that a line had been drawn under the entire anti-Semitism affair, but for farks sakes, if someone asks you, on television, about your feelings on the matter, being combative is a bad response.

I hope Starmer can continue to make Johnson look like a complete tit at PMQs even with Rees-Mogg's plan to give him a lot of idiotic hype folk in effect.

Labour party officials opposed to Jeremy Corbyn worked to lose the 2017 general election in the hope that a bad result would trigger a leadership contest to oust him, a dossier drawn up by the party suggests.
A huge cache of leaked WhatsApp messages and emails show senior officials from the party's right wing, who worked at its HQ, became despondent as Labour climbed in the polls during the election campaign despite their efforts.
