Welcome to the world of science via social media. Welcome to science via press releases. Welcome to a world where each scientist is the equivalent of an Instagram influencer. Welcome to 21st century science.

Imma just leave this here.

If Covid's main vector wasn't stupid people we'd have it totally exterminated by fall.

Burkas for everyone?

You see the funny thing is that your link doesn't even say that.

What we do know is that only 1.2% of the fatalities in Italy had NO comorbidity factors.  We also know that poor diet and sedentary lifestyles create MOST of the comorbidity factors.   It's been harped on for decades.

Burquas? Wtf are you on?

Wearing a mask - even a simple cloth mask - is an extraordinarily effective way to prevent yourself from spraying out microdroplets which are potentially loaded with virus particles.

If everyone wears even a mask, nobody sprays out covid laden droplets and the transmission rate drops off a cliff because essentially every transmission originates from exhaled droplets.

And I like that you're trying to push the "iTs jUsT tHe fLu" line by adding "... as long as you're in perfect health" qualifier... SO WHAT? If people would just wear a goddamn mask then almost nobody has to die, or suffer permanent multiple organ damage, or be crippled in bed for a month, which is a superior outcome by any conceivable metric.

I think medical journal credulousness stems from studies like this having common sense results. If it had said anything an editor didn't already believe, then they might have considered the methods and analysis, but everyone accepts that masks aren't infallible, and journals want popularly accepted conclusions, just like Hollywood wants happy endings. It helped that it opened with a straw person fallacy, "face masks are thought to prevent transmission" [the study], which nobody believed (masks reduce transmission), then demonstrated that it's not true.

The Lancet study just retracted fits that same pattern; most everyone accepts hydroxychloroquine is a poor general treatment for COVID-19, so that's what the authors wrote. If they'd chosen to write the study with an unconventional ending, editors would have asked for evidence prior to publication.

You're just parroting the same lin, which isn;t peer reviewed, nor does it even dig deep.  That first photo is someone trying to exhale moisture.  Most people don't breathe like that. Ypu'd dehydrate losing that much moisture.  Your nose is built to keep moisture in.

I get, it.  It's scary and you want something to believe in. the mask is all you night have right now.  Your article did not say what you said it did, and I didn't mention perfect health.   Read the paper.   These are the things that are self inflicted for the majority of cases, andare clogging our health care system.

Obesity and Sedentary lifestyles lead to diabetes and that triggers kidney damage.   Well over 90% over people getting sick survive.  1.2% of the deaths had no contributing factors.      Your odds of dying in Italy IF you contacted it were essentially 1.2% of 7.5% if you weren't already killing yourself.

This is the joke about your friend and the bear.  You don't need to outrun the bear, just your friend.   Now, your friend has a BMI of 40 and you're tied to him

Any chance of the mask helping and you're infusing it with mystical properties, but obesity and sedentary lifestyles are killing people, and ANY obese person who's not ill is proof that obesity is just as healthy to way too many people.

Oh, and by the way.  Alcohol abuse (not including accidents) kills around 80k in the U.S. annually.  Not really that far under this so far.   Don't go on about how it's not done   Also, there was never going to be a logarithmic or exponential growth.  The models that predicted that failed to account for the increased probability of people already being exposed to it.
