2020-06-04 3:24:57 PM, seeing that another platoon had access to a weight bench and we didn't, we decided to steel ourselves and ask the SDI if we too could gain access to one.

We expected to get smoked, but instead for every lift we could think of, the SDI knew 3 better exercises we could do in the bay with no additional equipment. We also got an excellent lecture on the difference between beach muscle and the type of endurance muscle that a soldier needs.

Tldr: no one "needs" to hit the gym

Iron weights cost between one and two bucks a pound, and an adjustable weight set that'll cover you on dumbells from 5 to 60lb will run you maybe two hundred bucks.

Running on the street where you can stay two meters from other runners while in an outdoor environment is free.  Maybe an extra twenty bucks for a nice hat or a few months of sunscreen if summer is giving you issues.

... just get the equipment and exercise at home, you idiots.  Even a YMCA membership is like thirty bucks a month, you'll break even on buying your own shiat versus the membership fees long before the plague is done.  And the whole 'social' selling point that is the only thing in a gym's favor in the first place is not something that applies right now.
