Not the coward's path, the owners are by and large Trump groupies if not closeted racists.
They chose to not rehire the "uppity" black, not out of cowardice but because they refuse to give up their plantation system.

Do we bother trying to find a way to say Hill's conclusion is correct and sentiment is easily agreed upon but the road she took to get there has some problems?

Meh, why discuss the nuances of people's writing we generally agree with when we should all be stomping out the actual problem:

The owners f*cked up, the NFL f*cked up, and as much as I enjoy watching it, I have no problem doing my part to hit them in the wallet.

The league only ever has, and only ever will, do what's best for their revenues.

If that means lying about kneeling to keep racist money, then so be it. If it means acknowledging black people have a right to exist, well they can probably find a way to do that as well.

You knew the reasoning was sketchy when you saw the byline.

Jemele Hill and most of her readers go back 15 years to ESPN page 2, maybe longer for her Detroit readers  You do have to put on glasses and put in some thought when she turns up the heat like this.

The NFL absolutely made violence more likely when it conspired to keep Colin from even signing as a back up. That sent a very clear message to everyone in America that non violent advocacy for black Americans would not be tolerated.

Welp. Guess what Option B is.

but how can that be? Roger Goodell is such good friends with Jay-Z.

Profit will always trump justice and society keeps saying loud and clear that better to give up a dollar of justice than a penny of profit.

The coward's path is the one in which they get fat bank accounts, so of course they did.

The Atlantic, huh? Nothing but opinion news and I wonder if it is even considered a reliable source.

Now now, let's be clear here. It's not that the NFL doesn't care about black lives.

It's just that it cares about money more.

You can always investigate their citations to find out.

But that would require, you know, work.

Thing is just like with all controversies with the NFL this one will eventually blow over with people forgetting about it.

I'm not even surprised anymore by the people who see her name and dismiss her out of hand.  "Hurr durr race baiting!"

The owners tried to make it a personal choice at first. No rules for or against standing. Then Trump weighed in and made it political. Pence made a big show about leaving in a hmph once he saw a kneeling player - which was just the same as Antifa burning the White House down. The owners know who the fans in the stands are - white, middle to upper-middle class MEN who slant decidedly toward Trump. Ignore the 1%ers in the suites, they aren't there to watch the game. Certainly not paying any attention before kickoff. They made their decision. Now they get to live with it.

There are plenty of black people in sports media that people don't say that about. I wonder why people would say that about her?
