Sunday night in Atlantic City three of our employees were marching with other protesters.  Some damn fools started busting store windows. The three ladies saw our store getting its window smashed and ended up chasing the people inside out of the store. They called our VP and he showed up to install plywood over the glass. The homeless guy who coops under the front door awning swept up all the glass.

So...the 15 cops appeared on Sunday afternoon after receiving a call that it was being vandalized while he was in there cleaning it up with some friends.

But what happened?  Did they do anything, just check, help cleanup?  Article sort of skips the most important part

The vandals are paid and from elsewhere.   They target black stores.  Perhaps, recalling the real boston tea party, where white businessmen dressed as Native Americans, vandalized and looted ships in the harbor.  Or perhaps, the Tulsa riot of June 1, 1921, where black businesses were destroyed, sometimes by fire bombs from the air.

The police know this.

No, I think they hit the message they'd intended.

Looks like they didn't do anything (like arrest this guy-because if they did, he would have said) and just left.  Whoopie-do.

Cops are not psychic.  If they get a looting call, they will assume anybody in the store is a looter until proved otherwise.  Duh.

What did he do with the pieces of broken glass? If he tried to pass them off as diamonds, the guy's a born entrepreneur.

We give him 10 bucks once or twice a week to sweep up the attached parking lot and we don't roust him from the doorway when we're closing up in the evening.

I'd suggest "voting from the rooftops", but doing that while black would probably be a good way to end up another statistic.

They kicked the soap box out from under anyone's feet when they tried to speak. And the longer you wait to speak out, the less support you'll have when they come for you.

It's important, very important, to make that distinction, because there are people actively trying to discredit the protestors as rioters and looters.

/oh, and someone post the saying of when military becomes the police
//the police themselves have been militarized

Not surprised at all.

There are flat out people here advocating murder of their political rivals, and others advocating murder of police.
Yet others that think it's fine and dandy to rob, steal, vandalize, etc.

Some, all of the above.

There's one idiot that thinks that fighting back against rapists, murderers or violent attackers is wrong because it makes you just as bad as them.

Nope. Not surprised at all.

Yeah, the legitimizing of looting is the worst.
Destruction of private property is a crime.
I don't know if Floyd was a serial counterfeiter, didn't read that anywhere.

I DO know that he was murdered. In cold blood.

/See the NYT video on it. There's a scene with Floyd begging to breath, and Chauvin saying "well, get in the car" while STILL stationary, kneeling on his neck.

I don't know if you are trolling or what, but the point here is that someone called the cops on a black man for looking suspicious in the store he farking owns.  Yes, the police are obligated to respond to a call for a suspicious person.  The problem is the call itself, not the police response.

Jesus I hope you were trolling because I'd rather look stupid for responding with the incredibly obvious answer than to think you really didn't get it.

Well, the cops in many cities are clearly enforcing the law a bit more in the daylight, when the rioting crowds are still home nursing hangovers...

Someone sees people in a looted business, makes a call and the police respond.

There's nothing inherently racial or racist about that.

Now, leaving the readers hanging as to what actually happened after the police arrived certainly seems to show a racial point of view of the store owner and how the writer of the article Wrote it and it's intended purpose...

If anything bad actually happened between the police and the owner, you honestly think that would have been left out?  Nothing was said because nothing happened.  The entire reason for the article as written was to stir up racial division.

Let's break this down....

A black man

Would the call have been made if he was white, Asian, Hispanic, etc.?
It was a group of men in a looted store. People of all races have looted.  Why was his race important to your recitation of your view of what happened?

In the store he farking owns

Did the caller know he was the owner? Did the police know he was the owner before they arrived?
Doubtful in both cases. Totally irrelevant to the caller making the call unless they KNEW he was the owner and were trying to SWAT him.  If that was the case, we'd have heard about it in 72 point bold, all caps.

The problem is the call itself

If I were a store owner and had my store looted, I would be THANKFUL to have someone call the police if they saw people in my obviously wide open and looted store.  I'd be THANKFUL that the police arrived quickly and in force.

If I were a store owner in this situation I'd be mad that my store was looted, mad a call wasn't made WHILE it was being looted and mad there wasn't that police response while it was being looted, not about anything in the article.

But then, my intent isn't to stir up racial shiat.
