That makes me so happy and so sad at the same time.   Hopefully others follow.  Like the Santa Cruz CoP who took a knee.

Remember this. This may go down in history as the first major crack in the Old Regime.

And the start of the Second Civil War.

Santa Cruz PD gets it. He even has a LGBT rainbow patch in the picture. Santa Cruz is far left even for California and there hasn't been any violence or rioting there. It's almost as if the leftists aren't the ones who are the criminals.

The Civil War was a Civil War because whole states organized themselves against the federal government, and were able to do so initially because they could outfit an army.  I dont see that happening today unless you wholesale have elements of national guard units revolting.  Not impossible, just not likely.

The best quote I read online somewhere was a woman who said "We are sick and tired of being sick and tired." This chaos is due to a significant part of the population continually left behind economically, and they have been pushed to hard.  Throw in massive unemployment, covid19, being stuck at home with little kids home from school...and you have a recipe for what we have.  Not a civil war, but unrest to the point that the Republican party could be dead in a few months.

The military is 45-50% Black and Hispanic.

It ain't a monolith.  Chad from Biloxi signed up to "shoot some ragheads" or some shiat, but the black kid from Alpharetta?  He gets what BLM is doing.

Good for them but the military is mostly right-wingers. Once Trump orders the military to attack Americans, I wonder how many days or weeks or months will it take for them to put down their weapons?

Unfortunately, I've been seeing a whole lot of kumbayah in daylight and a lot of the very same departments slinging tear gas by night.  And I don't think it's all second-shift's fault.

THAT is the only military parade Cadet Bonespurs deserves.

SOOOOO glad I hung my boots up before that obscenity oozed into our White House. I got a letter of appreciation from Mr. Obama for my service - I wouldn't want anything with trump's klan rally of a signature on it.  I would've wiped by ass on it and sent it back.

' When the agents of the state refuse to carry out the orders of the state, that is a revolution"

I hope this will all end peacefully, but with trump and his cult cranking up the heat as much as they can to enflame tensions I think we are just getting started.

You bring up some good points. But once these black and hispanic soldiers are beat down, brainwashed, and forced to undergo brutal military training, the soldiers will justify their actions by saying that "they were only following orders".

Doubtful it'll be the Republican party that's going to be dead in a few months. Generally when admins like this start doing the things this admin is doing it's because they know that they're no longer in jeopardy of losing their power.

It's nice to see, if it's genuine. But in Seattle we (as a nation, I'm in DC) had a peaceful protest where officers took a knee and had a photo op with everyone...... and then came after them when the photos were done.

This has happened in a number of places. The cops acted peaceful and showed camaraderie for the photo ops, and then less than an hour later were bashing heads.

Do NOT trust these scenes without knowing what happened next.

Shields down, visors up.

Take down the physical and psychological barriers that separate you from the people lining up on the other side.

Let everyone see you're all people.

Deescalate.

Yeah, I don't trust any of this goodwill from the police right now.  It seems like it's designed to placate the protesters long enough for the state to regain control while making no meaningful change to address why people are protesting. I'll believe the police are serious about systemic change when systemic change starts getting codified, otherwise it's just empty words.

I'm hearing they did that in Indy, one group was hugging and high fiving to distract while another group gassed people

Exactly, there are minorities in police departments. And these minorities become brutal, violent, and fully embrace dangerous police behavior. Police brutality has been normalized and even minority police officers justify it.
