Whatever happened to "monkey see, monkey do"?

I like that the people 'learning a lesson' from the monkeys, are not wearing masks.

Guess we need to give the monkeys masks, so the humans can learn from them.

Makes sense.  Swinging Macaque needs about one meter of personal space.

Sometimes the neocortex is just not all that

they have a connection to the subconscious that they don't even know they have

and because of that sometimes they know much more than the thinkers

It might be mimicry

it might be training

there is just so much we don't know

2020-06-02 2:27:59 PM
But the impression I get about monkeys I don't know training seems like a stretch

Primates are smart. I don't know if this is normal behavior like avoiding sharing food or not. My guess is that either it's normal because sitting apart means they don't lose their treat to other monkeys OR they are mimicking what they see people doing. Also it's very possible that people have even been rewarding them more because people think the distancing behavior is interesting and they've learned to associate sitting in that pattern with extra treats.

I don't work with primates but I have 20+ years of working with ferrets. Some animals pick up on things very quickly. Last night I was working with a newish rescue, trying to get him to do two different behaviors in a row. He figured it out within maybe 10 minutes and successfully repeated it today. If a ferret can learn that quickly, there's no reason to think a primate can't.
