Good.  Now start a bonfire in the back of your armored assault vehicle and throw your batons, your "non lethal" munition launchers, your combat fatigues, and your tazers in there.  Then you get your pat on the back and a body camera on the front.

Police have been feed this us verses them mentality for generations.  As long as they view the public as the enemy, they will respond with violence and repression.  You can bet there are lots of cops all over the country who are pissed that these officers worked with the community they are meant to serve.  But police should be servants of the public.  Even the public committing crimes.

The problem is the image of police as public servants is historically inaccurate.  They always have been a means of forcefully controlling to population.  They have always been an instrument of state sponsored terrorism against black communities.  From enforcing slavery, to Jim Crow, to the civil rights movement and the 'war on drugs' which has always been a war blacks and young liberals. It is in the very DNA of America's cops.   American Police have always been tasked with keeping blacks in their place, through violence or the threat of violence.  The difference now is that everyone can see it happening.  Before smart phones and social media, this would not be seen.  It would not even get reported.  But this can change, but it absolutely has to be the police who change.  They have to either stand down and retool their mindset or be abolished and replaced.  The only other option is increasingly violent uprisings and increasingly violent repression, leading to more violent uprising.  The question is, how many dead, wounded and unjustly imprisoned before we accept the need for ground up change in policing.

It's the large gangs of armed thugs dressed all the same in black you have to watch out for.  Those guys are the ones starting all the riots.

Absolutely. It's almost as if the worst possible way to respond to protests against police brutality is with police brutality.

I view it as the opposite, black people know they are in a position of power over white cops  They know they have the upper hand every single time there is a police interaction these days. If you watch every single interaction these days with a conscientious cop, they hesitate way more and think a lot more before they act.

There was a video the other day of a black woman clocking a white police officer in the face... twice.. and you could see the look of helplessness on his face about what to do.  Then a black police officer came over and defended him by pretty much knocking her out.  If the white officer had hit her, it would be in the national news, even though she clocked him twice.  "Hey look... that white cop leveled that poor black lady.. he should have de-escalated it instead of hitting her!"

The above is what most of my cop friends are concerned about all the time.. some are begging to be paired up with a black cop in these situations.. but there aren't enough black cops to go around.

99.99% of cops are good, its that 0.01% that are bad and the police unions protects them.. just like the teachers union protects bad teachers, etc.etc..etc.

What in the actual fark did I just read?

Flint did the same, and Detroit PD when I was at the protests over the weekend was very much "you do your thing, if you don't start shiat neither will we". It was only after curfew when people started showing from out of town that there was a real problem.

Camden has been through the fire (literally) and as a community they are working really really hard to change their image.  It has taken a long time to get everyone on board, but there is a sense of community that is rare in large cities, they know they are only going to get there together and together they can stop the madness.

Other cities should learn, the peaceful protesters should show up before the looting starts and just stand in front of businesses and churches in their communities and deny the looters easy targets of opportunity.  The looters are cowards if they are challenged.

Part of them are Nazis trying to spark a full on race war.

Part of them are just opportunists taking advantage of the fact that the cops are all preoccupied with 'policing' predominately peaceful protests.

/If the cops are all surrounding, beating up, tear gassing, and running over peaceful protestors, they're NOT policing actual streets and actual crimes.  Which means people can take advantage of that.

It's a device designed to record video taken vertically and designed to playback video taken vertically. Why the fark should we turn it sideways?

Human field of view is wider than it is tall assuming the person has two functioning eyes and is using both of them. As such horizontal video is far more pleasing to the human eye.

So far everywhere that this has happened it has created the solidarity and peace everyone deserves.  I can't help but wonder how many of the cops sent out in riot gear wish they were standing arm in arm with the protestors.  It also removes the chaos/conflict cover that the rioters and looters need.

Color me shocked that Trump is demanding they do the complete opposite.

The protests made up of concerned local citizens, being watched over by concerned local police forces, seem to all go peacefully.  The protests seeded with out of town violent anarchists, and/or those confronted by militarized police looking for a fight, end up as riots.  This isn't a "both sides are bad" take on it; it's just an observation that violence can begin from either the crowd side of the line or the cop side of the line.  What's universal is that once it starts, it spirals.

The cops I'm seeing on camera plowing through crowds of protestors and shooting into them indiscriminately with "less than lethal" weapons don't seem to be part of that 99.9%.

The white kids protesting aren't antifa. Those folks follow around nazis (out of uniform) and harass them. These are just opportunistic jackasses who deserve any criminal charges that come their way.
