When it is released on my Roku, I will look.

AT&T ruined something? I don't know how to process this unexpected revelation.

I looked at the list of shows.

Meh is an overstatement.

I signed up pre-release to get the discount, but there are slightly more important things going on in the world.

Also not available for Amazon fire stick.  I think the movie selection is pretty incredible, but obviously ymmv.  They did a lousy job of advertising what's available, and for whatever reason decided to focus on DCU movies

To complement the roughly 2000 episodic series and roughly 70,000 movies available across streaming services today, here's a few more.

They really needed to run the nude scenes from Game of Thrones in the broadcast ads.  When you've got one hit, and it's over, you need to flog it like it isn't.

Apparently the only offering this service worth noting, thats not already part of HBO GO/MAX is they have "Friends".

/i never liked "Friends"

I think you're using the wrong term for them, then.

If it wasn't for the riots, I think it would have landed better.

The biggest mistake is not to have the Roku and Amazon stuff.

The service is great for someone who has a love for Warner Bros material.

But they need to do something more to highlight the diversity.

The HBO shows, the DC shows and movies,  The Bugs Bunny cartoons, Rick and Morty, Westerns and Gangster film... A lot really!

I get it free because I have HBO on Spectrum cable.

I looked at the app briefly.  Other than a thing or two on the DC Hub, I am not impressed.

2020-06-01 6:50:03 PM
We have because AT&T. The TCM hub is a joke. It's Criterion's "Essential Arthouse" section plus the most popular, obvious older movies (GWTW, Ben Hur, Casablanca, etc). I pay for Criterion already, and I'd gladly pay for a proper, curated TCM, but it's crap right now.

I tried to fire up my HBO app and it told me that I had to load a new app, then argued with me about logins

/If it doesn't work soon I'll just cancel the damned thing
//Only signed up for Westworld anyway

A corporation so antiquated and hated they abandoned their real name (SBC) when they bought out AT&T.

This is my problem as well. Nothing to endear people to your service like locking you out of something that you're already paying for.

So a new, proprietary, stove-piped, streaming service. Huh?

2020-06-01 7:39:07 PM
However, unlike Disney, which planned its streaming service Disney+ around five major franchises - Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic - AT&T's brands are less cohesive, making the content feel jumbled.

But not nearly as jumbled as Netflix, which has a variety of content and therefore sucks, which is why Netflix is such a colossal failure and nobody watches it.

Netflix was great 10 years ago when I could pick a random documentary and it would be great. The last time I had it, I pick something new and after 20 minutes I'd bail out and never turn back.

The Epstein doc is reallly good.

I have it included with my AT&T cell phone plan as an upgrade from the previously included HBO Go. My wife and I are really enjoying Doom Patrol.

Dirty Money is good too, although it is pretty depressing. The episode about old people being victimized by Guardianship scams just was nightmarish.

It even has episodes for Trump AND Kush.

When 7/10 of the market for watching it is unavailable, I'm sure that could be part of the issue.

I have YouTube TV (lucky enough to have an internet provider that doesn't force a cable package) and was able to add it to my YouTube TV and get it on Roku that way.

Curiosity stream is 20 bucks a year (15 on sale). There are some good documentaries on it though a lot of content is geared towards children.

You can add it to Hulu as well I think.

I had HBONow which switched to Max automatically.
I immediately started to binge Rick and Morty, but most of the HBO content, I already knew about.
I don't care much about DC or Friends.

Not partnering with Roku or Amazon is essentially shooting yourself in the foot while at the starting gate.
People actually got paid to tell AT&T that "you don't need Roku" with a straight face.
My newest Roku has a Disney+ "quick button", which shows how much Disney understood the value and necessity. Ball dropped, AT&T.

For 20 bucks a year, it is well worth it!

I don't think it's a "you don't need Roku", I think it's more "you've got the upper hand here with Roku and Amazon, hold out" which is failing spectacularly.

Probably streaming rights against the DC Universe streaming app.  I mean HBO max doesn't even have Man of Steel yet.

It's definitely hodgepodge with glaring omissions even in their special categories (like venture brothers and final space for Adult Swim, TT:GO for DC or Cartoon Network).  Their crunchyroll section....exists?  I have no idea what's going on there.

But it's definitely got some good stuff in there.  Been watching a Studio Ghibli movie basically once a day, and will probably work my way through samurai jack or Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood at some point.

The worst thing about HBO Max is its 2020 and you have all these movies that are also on HBO which has HBO Lat, and you can't choose a farking audio language.  It's 2020 and my daughter primarily speaks Spanish and enjoys watching Netflix, Disney+, and a bunch of regular TV shows in spanish, but you can only get a completely separate and non-overlapping Latino subcategory in spanish with HBO Max.

The problem is that their finale sorta turned their hit into a dud.

Which is actually quite an accomplishment.
