So why not hang together, announce you are voting for Biden, and help save your country? Explain that the president has left you no other honorable choice. You can still campaign for a Republican majority in the Senate to act as a check on a Democratic administration and its judicial picks. At best, you might help save your party and rescue your country.

Fark that noise. We need a Democratic majority Senate as much as we need Trump gone, so we can get out our shovels, brooms, work gloves and masks and can start cleaning up the mess they have made.

Anway, they'd get primaried, or get write-in candidates further right opposing them. Some of those could win runoffs in states that require a 50%+1 vote majority to decide an election. Or the decision goes to Republican majority General Assemblies.

In which states does the "General Assembly" choose a Senator at any point?

I was thinking that in some states in contested elections with no clear winner, the Legislature gets to decide the outcome of the election. But that might just be for state offices.

Nay. The 17th stipulates the people choose, and if there's an election that really so close that a winner can't be determined under the laws of the state, the Senate declares the seat vacant and they go through the state's normal vacancy process for Senators.

Additionally, not every Senator is up for re-election, not every state allows write-ins, and filing deadlines have largely lapsed, so the danger of an actual threatening lessens by the day.

Whatever kompromat the Russians gave Donnie to hold over Graham's head, it must be EPIC.

This has to be worse than video of him dressed as a girl scout and being made airtight, rotisserie-chicken-style, by two Terry Crews lookalikes.

They must have him on videotape roasting captured orphans alive and eating the flesh using St. Louis-style barbecue sauce instead of Carolina style.

The "kompromat" they have is that he is a South Carolina senator who doesn't want to be primaried. Combine that with the fact that he's always been a spot-light hogging, slimy little shiat whose route to the spotlight now is slavish support of Trump, and you have all the explanation you need.

But... sure... it's Russia. It's always Russia.

Quit now? In their moment of triumph, I think not.
They are so close to achieving what that want, which is a one party totalitarian state. A permanent Republican majority. Why do you think they have been stacking the courts. They practiced a constitutional convention a few years ago, which by the way, they were only one state house away from getting to the threshold to call for it. If that happens, they can change the constitution permanently and irrecoverably. You can wave bye bye to our Republic if that happens. These men don't come this close to that happening and then give up.

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

I can't believe how many morons believe this shiat.  This guy gets paid to write this and apparently thinks this is in the realm of possibility?  Or is it written to soothe a certain segment of society who practice magical thinking of going back to normal?  Cause I don't see anything that makes me think republicans outside of Romney are gonna break rank.  They're openly committing crimes too.

2020-06-01 8:24:10 AM
Why, Trump has perfectly personified the Republican. This is who they are. If you are not like this, you are not like a Republican. Register and vote accordingly.

2020-06-01 8:25:29 AM
This exposes the fallacy that Republicans are about party over country.

For the GOP, the ideal solution is to dump the mess Trump made on the Democrats, and then spend the next four years obstructing everything they try to do to fix it while loudly complaining about how ineffective Democrats are, and branding this the Biden recession and Biden riots, etc.  Then come back strong in 2024, once the Democrats have patched the country back together but before the impact of that is felt.

But for individual Republicans, that would mean losing their sweet grasp on the teats of power.

And that's really what they are about... themselves over country.  The party is just a means to an end.

2020-06-01 8:26:16 AM

Trump is acting in any way antithetical to American conservatism... how, exactly?

I don't know why there are people who still don't get this: Trump isn't the disease, Trump is the most obvious symptom. Racism, hate, sexism, xenophobia, ignorance, these are not things Trump brought to the party, they're why Trump came to the party.

The problem isn't Trump, it's republicans and conservatism. The party and its ideology are what must be rebuked, rejected and never allowed to return. Just throwing Trump out does nothing, because conservatives want someone who will brutalize minorities, put a boot on homosexual and transgender people, and torture immigrants.

That's what republicans want, they're the problem. They're not going to join you in a quest for redemption because they're the villains.

They had their chance to make that stand in January during the Impeachment trial. They failed that test then, what makes one think they'll miraculously rise to the occasion now?

They'll sit on their hands until Trump is gone and then pretend that outside the tax cuts of 2017, which were really Mitch McConnel's victories, they'll pretend that nothing of note happened during Trump's presidency. They don't know the guy well. They never really talked to him.

There are a lot of people who refuse to believe that the country and Constitution have failed, and think if we just get rid of Trump everything will go back to normal. These people are usually moderate Democrats.

2020-06-01 9:25:18 AM
Sorry, but, that ship sailed at the Senate impeachment trial.

I don't give a shiat if the GOP now has buyer's remorse. They were asked to choose - party or country - and all of them, even Mitt "Mormon Fence-Straddler" Romney, chose "party." Trump clearly committed high crimes & misdemeanors, and every single goddamned Republican in the Senate decided to ignore their oaths of office, refuse to defend the Constitution, and instead gleefully boarded the GOP party ship and flipped the rest of us off. Even when it was apparent that Trump had lashed down the wheel and chopped a hole in the hull, GOP assholes were determined to have a good time at everyone else's expense and ignore the obvious monstrosities occurring under their auspices.

Now that Trump and his buddies screwed up everything - now that there's six figures' worth of dead Americans, now that 20+% of us are out of work, now that the economy's in the shiatter for everyone but the 1%, now that the world's looking at us like "a third world country with a Gucci belt", now that Trump's fanning a race war as a possible distraction from all of that, now that the GOP realizes that the bill for their little party excursion may come due - you plea for them to, perhaps, change the ship's direction?

Fark that, and fark them.

So, they're not getting on a lifeboat. They're not getting a life preserver. In fact, if I could, I'd lock them in goddamned steerage and listen to their burbling screams as the ship sinks into the briny farking deep.
