His explanation, while rational, is very highly unlikely.
First, the vet would have to assume Jon is pregnant.
Second, she supposedly has a coffee cup of fertilization supplement on the exam table.
Third, she's dealing with a cat and there are no dogs in the panel.
Fourth, the whole concept of the comic would hang on Davis's presupposition that the comic's audience knows all about animal husbandry, and is aware of what's in the cup and why.

QED, Jizztards.

Why do you think it was only once, Subby?

I definitely remember that comic.  that would have been around the time when i was 9 or 10 and would be checking tons of garfield / calvin and hobbes / far side compilations out of the library.

I didn't know why it was funny necessarily, but it was funny.

thinking about this made me look at my library eras:

7-11 was almost all comics.
11-14 was all michael crichton and john grisham books

around 14 i got a subscription to the "science fiction book club", which was like columbia house for books.  I picked up the (up to then) collection of terry brooks "shannara" series, which remains my favorite fantasy line, even more than tolkien.

as well, the william gibson cyberpunk stuff.

man, that was a good time.  I can never seem to make myself read much for fun any more... probably due to being old and hardened with too many responsibilities and worries.  but back then all that fantasy stuff was the perfect place for a kid to reside in for hours at a time.

Why would anyone assume there was anything more going on than Liz messing with Jon because he was a stupid enough prick to both drink from a cup that wasn't his, and do so in an environment where he couldn't be certain what was in it? Why would Davis have had to come up with an explanation, either while he was creating it or now, as a lie to pretend it was something that needed explaning?

Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.

But it was in 2016 when Scott Adams the creator of Dilbert drank Trump's jizz.

That article. . . like they couldn't decide whether they wanted to write an article, run a list of tweets, or show a bunch of Garfield cartoons, so they just mixed them all together and created an abomination, with ads.

Because everyone now tearing apart every piece of pop culture is a literal minded nerd that chooses to interpret things in the most obtuse way possible in order to generate clicks.

"So I don't get it. Why was Norman Bates wearing a dress? PLOT HOLE."

If I remember correctly, the first couple collection books were funny. A red one and a yellow one, maybe? This was 1978-80 or so. At least they were funny to a 7-9 year old.

But the strip most certainly went full suck once Garfield began walking around on two legs.

I do have Garfield funny, sorry.

Garfield wasn't designed to be funny. Garfield was designed to sell greeting cards, candy, calendars, and literally anything on which you could slap his image.

100% true. Jim Davis saw how well Snoopy merchandise was selling to people who like dogs and decided to try marketing a comic character to people who like cats.
