Wtf are you guys doing over there? The UK is in the top five for highest number of covid deaths per million, worse than Sweden and they didn't even do a lockdown at all.

Nothing? Every week we go outside and gather with our neighbours to Clap for the Carers because we are Following the Science and scientists have found that the noise frightens the coronavirus away.

We have an incompetent right-wing government, just like the USA and Brazil.

Somehow they are managing to be less effective than doing nothing, they are actively making things worse.

We have a decaying health care system, a decade of abuse at the hands of a Tory government hell bent on underfunding and misdirection of money to private contractors the themselves sit on the boards of, means the NHS is on its knees every winter just having to cope with flu let alone Coronavirus.
Our aging population with longterm health problems are crammed in close proximity nursing homes with inadequate PPE and undertrained or overstretched staff.
This recipe for disaster is being sold to the world as a success story by the liars in charge.
I lost an old friend to COVID 19 last week due to her nursing home being swamped with infections. Our government has been criminally negligent if the NHS and now we are paying for it.

Don't forget, it's OK to ignore lockdown rules if you need to test your eyesight by going for a drive.

As opposed to the competent left-wing governments of Spain, Italy, France...whose numbers are also still rising? And have more per capita deaths than the US and Brazil.

The prediction is between 40 and 80 deaths per day.

Even if none of those deaths are mortality displacement*, that's an increase in annual death rate of less than 5% from the worst prediction.

*Remembering that 38% of deaths to date have been in care homes

Don't forget about looking after your children as any parent would do... By putting them in an enclosed space with a Covid19 sufferer for several hours.

Also, Boris Jonson, or Cummings, understands his support base very well. They're the type that supported brexit, burn down 5g masts, think the Rona is no worse than the flu and all they want to do is go to the local beach, get drunk and give out about foreigners.

They're not capable of understanding why they need to start indoors, and keeping them locked up will alienate then.

Daily new cases in the US are cooked numbers. If you look at excess deaths, just in florida, its 5 times worse.

Doesn't change the fact that the reason we are doing worse than countries that have had no lockdown is our incompetent right wing government. Other countries that also have an incompetent right wing government are the USA and Brazil.

French mortality rate in May below previous years despite epidemic

That would be a yes. They have a lower mortality rate than years when there was no epidemic.

Also, Italy has a right wing government

So you just mean Spain?

How will that differ from America's reality now?

People are getting infected, and accurate numbers aren't reported because Trump and his acolytes don't want to report accurate numbers.

Do you think that reporting accurate infection numbers would help or hinder the US?

Sorry to hear about your friend, my wife is a doctor in a care home and they had hell for weeks. No PPE and all holidays cancelled. It's getting better now from what I can tell.

A lot of the problem is that UK hospitals were predicted to be swamped with cases of Covid. So the government scrambled to clear people out of hospitals and place them into community care, as well as building temporary "Nightingale" hospital with thousands of beds dedicated to Covid patients. They rushed to procure thousands of new ventilators.

In the event, the Nightingale hospitals were never used and the government cancelled an order for ten thousand Dyson ventilators after they discovered that they were only using 40% of the ventilators that they already had.

In the meantime the people who were sent out into the community took the virus with them into the care homes.
It's a horrible mess, but it wasn't pure incompetance.

Not pure incompetence, I agree but a callous disregard for health care investment over the last decade has brought us here.
