also making George W Bush look halfway presidential in retrospect.  I thought W was unqualified and unfit to be president, and that opinion hasn't really changed, but at least he's shown some humanity and a little humility in the time he was in office.  Trump is the pure essence of modern conservative and republican values and they've proven this by supporting every stupid thing he does.  I know that every conservative / republican isn't 100% evil, but the burden of proof is on them now.  I will never again give them the benefit of the doubt, I will always assume - mostly correctly - that they will do the wrong thing in any situation.  I was once a moderate with some conservative views, but they've galvanized me into a deep and burning opposition with all their bullshiat..

If we're lucky.

If not, he'll be remembered as the two term president that started a war in mid 2020 to save his campaign, boost the economy, and distract the rubes.

In Trump's tradition of his accusations actually being confessions, he has engineered our "American Carnage."

Trumpers will be blaming China for a long time. Twenty years from now, maybe 40 years from now, conservatives will be doing their goddammedest to get into a war with them to pay them back. Like they've been doing with Iran for years.

Really the question of 2020 is will Trump be a bad President or the last President?

I'd prefer if his legacy was lumpy oatmeal from the prison kitchen every time he works the line. And everyone knows it was him who screwed up the oatmeal, and it gets him beaten up in the laundry.

Looks like one of Trump's businesses. Is there time to get Mark Burnett to come in and make him look good?

He also attempted (and succeeded?) starting a civil war.

I think you're right. Many say that he will be dropped like a hot potato like W, with republicans pretending he never existed. The man is a cult leader, not any politician. His base will not pretend they were 'never-trumpers' or anything like what happened with W when he left office. He will rage and rally and rant to the true believers until the day he dies. He's not going quietly.

There was a "before and after" with Bush because the office impacted him in many ways. Trump hasn't changed at all.

Duh?

I fully expect in a few years to hear of the opening of the Donald J. Trump Memorial Coloring Book Collection and Mass Gravesite.

Snatch Bandergrip: The Republican Party does not give a fark about legacy.

No, but Trump absolutely does. On the other hand, as long as he has a core of faithful who will chant his name he'll be happy. The rest are fake news.

I wouldn't be surprised if the qanon folks basically turn him into the next Elvis. "He didn't really die...he disappeared so that the Deep State wouldn't get him. He still watches over us from afar..." Complete with reported sigjhtings at truck stops outside of Mobile, AL and so on.

You'd think so but we've seen it with Reagan, we've seen it with Bush 1, we've seen it with W.  There will be an extensive propaganda campaign to rehabilitate his image.  In 10 years time, when the next Republican president (because memory of the current dumpster fire will have faded to being fodder for hacky standup routines and Buzzfeed listicles) is halfway through his first term and completely dismantling what little progress his Democratic predecessor was allowed to make, you'll start seeing pithy little pictures of Trump being posted on whatever replaces the current social media model with captions "When you're worse than Trump" or (my favorite) "Miss me, yet?"

I have long since come to the conclusion that Trump's actual goal is simply the complete destruction of America.  Everything he says and does comes into focus and makes complete sense when seen through that lens.

And as long as we pretend that he has any interest in actually being a normal President, he will be frighteningly competent at achieving his real goal.

I generally agree, but I don't know about the 'No building' part. The Donald J. Trump Memorial Sewage Treatment Plant has a nice ring to it.

Trump's legacy is already his economic and policy (particular COVID-19) failings but will end with it's long term effect on the US stature. Over the next two decades the world will have to cope with two (China and Russia) or possibly three powers (maybe also the EU, but they have their own issues) jockeying to take over as the predominate heavyweight. The US will be marginalized by both a lack of skilled immigration, as well as handicapped by a lot of skill, and wealth, emigration. Trump's legacy will be seen as the force that creates a great US diaspora, despite decades of US policy designed to prevent exactly that scenario.

The best the US can hope for is whoever is elected post Trump sees that the problem isn't undoing a worldwide embarrassment- that's the easy part. The difficult part is re-raising the US as a place for the rest of the world to be measured against.

Sewage plants provide value to humanity and the environment.  We should name a smoldering tire fire after Trump.  Something that uncontrollably spews toxic gasses seems more fitting.

Its only going to cost the Republicans if the Democrats can unite.. which is asking them to do the opposite of everything they have ever done.

American has a short memory and never underestimate the Democrats ability to fark things up royally.

No.

You made a poorly thought out blanket statement about mental illness. People that suffer from mental illness are many times more likely to be the victim of a crime than the perpetrator.

We should be doing more to destigmatize mental illness, not using it to excuse evil behavior.

Why shouldn't something that effects millions of people be normalized? You're using mental illness as a canard. Mental illness has nothing to do with the conscious decision to be a shiatball.

I'm glad you are satisfied that you think you've triggered me.

I'm stating that not all mental illness is equal and if you normalize it, you normalize the potentially dangerous with the potentially benign.. and if you do, the blood of the dangerous is on your hand.
