Like no wife ever tried to control a husband and failed, only to have eventually learned to live with him? Sure, it's out of step with modern sensibilities, but the analogy/sentiment isn't exactly wrong - or confined to men.

Men marry hoping their wives will never change from a biddable young thing.

Women marry thinking that they can change boys into men.

We are all wrong.

/now I wonder what the equivalent sayings are for gay and lesbian couples.

The jury is still out on that one - give it time, the same phenomenon will manifest. We're all God's children therefore we all suffer from the same vanities.

All I know, is that if I was a lawyer, I would've established a gay-divorce practice the minute the SCOTUS ruled gay marriage legal!
