I'm hoping this will be more like Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island (2017) and not like Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019).

Not that I have any real hopes, because most of the interesting humans have been killed off.   Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) dies in the first film, Colonel Packard (Samuel L. Jackson) and Bill Randa (John Goodman) die in the second, and worst of all, Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and Dr. Graham (Sally Hawkins) died in the last film.

Oh, and even worse, Kyle Chandler is going to be in it.  He was in the 2005 King Kong.

I've got a bad feeling about this.

So hyped.

The Monsterverse has been one of the few bright spots in this darkest of timelines. Skull Island and KotM especially.

The finally had an America Godzilla film that nailed the spirit of the Japanese versions. Dumb humans and all.

Skull Island proved you can also have a human plot that isn't pants on head stupid, and still compelling.

If they can combine KotM monster fighting with Skull Island quality (or better) humans it will be the perfect film.

I'm with ya.... I thought the Godzilla sequel was atrocious.  I mean, i can't really put my finger on why, but it was completely unengaging .   I supposed watching big CGI cartoons fighting does nothing for me.    I obviously love monsters and dinosaurs, and that kind of thing, but there is a way to bring emotional investment, and that film did not do it.   The 2014 film, on the other hand.... not a lot of fighting, but extremely atmospheric, and emotional.    There has to be a happy medium, between the 2 styles.

The problem with the PR2 fights is that the big lumbering robots from the first film somehow became ballerina ninja acrobats.  It really killed the sense of size and mass.

But you could see them clearly, yay.

You're right. It super unrealistic how the buildings in that movie made giant dust clouds when they got smashed.

Or how massive creatures cause their own localized weather.

Hint: The storms were metaphors for the chaos Gidorah was sowing in the world. That's why Mothra showed up and dispelled the storm over Castle Bravo - showing the break in the storm, aka hope amidst the chaos. Symbolism is a thing.

I'm a Godzilla fan, but I hate orange and blue suckfests, and KotM was an orange and blue suckfest.   The only positive thing is that it wasn't a staccato orange and blue suckfest like Final Wars.  Seriously, the only thing that reminded me I wasn't watching Pacific Rimjob was the lack of jaegers.

Ah, baloney. Way back in Godzilla 1998 the producers admitted most of the scenes were in the dark and rain because they thought Godzilla looked better that way, i.e. the less you saw of him the more realistic he looked. For all the faults of the 2005 King Kong, at least you could see what was going on.

Youtube 4yWONIKTvL4

If they were being realistic all you would see from any distance far enough to take in the carnage is vague shapes whipping around, maybe monster heads sticking out the top.

They literally spell out the storm metaphor in the movie, when talking about Ghidorah not being part of the natural order. Not to mention they set up Ghidorah's storm powers on the Monarch website before the movie released.

Lastly how the fark is anything anyone associated with that 1998 misbegotten travesty has to say relevant to to the new films?

I contend that the 1998 isn't a bad film, and that if it had been named something like "The Monster That Ate Manhattan" or something like that, and didn't have the Godzilla name attached to it, it would be much more highly regarded.

In fact, I would say that it is superior to all the Godzilla films that preceded it, except for the original film.

Which isn't to say it doesn't have flaws, but if you want to nit-pick on it, let's bring up pretty much the entire canon from "Godzilla Raids Again" to "Godzilla 1985" and compare them.
