Interesting tidbit in that was that the production version will be 5% smaller in every dimension to meet garage size requirements.

Musk admits it's Bullet proof, for the apocalypse.

Just as I've said all along, it's not a work truck, it's a battle car for fleeing the peasant uprising.

Not any more douchetastic than everyone who thinks they "need" an SUV for grocery shopping and driving kids around.

I'm not interested in putting a missile launcher in the back. Any chance of installing a GAU-8?

I'm going with a flux capacitor and a small nuclear reactor, to be upgraded to a Mr. Fusion when I reach the future.

Sadly, Biff Trump used the Sports Almanac to put us in the darkest timeline, so the Mr. Fusion date has been pushed back from 2015.

In what way? I honestly think it looks awesome, and I think 40k for a bullet proof truck that gets to 60 in under 3 seconds is actually value for money.

Sure, it looks like it was literally designed by an 8 year old me, but that's irrelevant. It looks really frickin cool!

I put a deposit down on a tri-motor the morning the order site went live.

I'm not making any excuses for it's looks, it's ugly as sin, but it ticks every single box on my EV pickup truck checklist.

There's nothing wrong with my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 at this time, but I can tell as I approach 250k that it's starting to get tired, even with me doing the best I can to be proactive with maintenance and fixing small problems before they turn into big problems.

The proposed EV trucks from Lordstown, Rivan, Bollinger, and Fisker do nothing for me and I'll never own a Ford truck, let alone an EV version.  And I learned my lesson years ago with Ducati to never buy the first generation of any new vehicle technology, and that's where the Tesla truck wins, it uses drivetrain components and computers that are already proven in their existing vehicle lineup.

Elon may be turning into a weapons great shiatlord, but I'm buying the truck from Tesla, not him.  I'm friends with engineers that work for Tesla, and I have to remind myself that they put a lot of pride into what they do, and they're the ones behind what goes into the truck, not Elon.

I'd get one if they would completely redesign it so it didn't look like it was designed at the local vocational school for sheet metal.

Elon's had a few babies this past year.  This is the ugly one.

I also vote for a MegaForce paint job and/or the Damnation Alley/Minneapolis Commuter accessory pack.

It just looks like something from a poster in a circa 1985 Spencer's Gifts. I feel like I would have liked it when I was a teenager but there's something too brutalist about it.

Maybe a different color would help.

You're not wrong.  I want to love this thing, even as insane as it looks.  But regardless of his actual relevance to its engineering and construction, I would just feel dirty knowing I'm driving around in a monument to his ego.

I mean, I'd never even fly in one of his spaceships.

Why in the world does it have to look like a careful evolution of a 1930s truck?  Pickups have a whole load of unnecessary bits to show that "look!  It's a pickup truck!".  This thing is a clean sheet design that assumes using stainless steel is a good idea (I suspect Delorean proved that false).

Now not wanting to cough up >>$60k for something likely to be the Ford Edsel of tomorrow I can understand.  That has to be a risky thing, considering just how important looks are to car buyers (and resale value).

So is the issue that it was literally stupid to design such a thing that would be highly risky to buy?  Now that I think about it, I can understand that point.  Elon could have said "just use the same material as the rest of the Telsa cars and make a pickup truck out of it" and it would sell.  But he had to go and use the same material as Starship (presumably it makes sense there) and required an iconclastic design.  But that assumes that "truck fans" were going to buy the Tesla Truck anyway, which is a pretty dubious assumption.

I also put down a deposit on the Tri-motor version the day it went live. I'm timing the end of my current lease to when I think this *might* be available.
Also, what's the issue with Musk? I know it's popular to hate on the guy but I can't for the life of me figure why except that he's highly successful and apparently that's enough to hate people these days for a certain segment of the population.

I am not a fan of straight line geometric designs in anything so disliking the truck's looks is entirely consistent.  For a while I felt that the Elon hate was an overblown internetism but the recent decent into self-serving conspirary peddling puts him pretty well into the territory of Bond villain in disguise.

It doesn't have to, but that doesn't mean this looks good. Kind of the same vibe as a PT Cruiser. People ran out and bought those because they looked different and then in a few weeks everyone was like "wtf have I done, I don't want to be seen in that farking thing"

Love it or hate it, the first few you see will turn your head.  Vehicles design general has been completely boring for a decade or two, so its nice to have something for everyone to gawk at.

Specs are really good, if it actually has utility he'll have a winner.

Dents from bicyclists that run red lights will only help with the aerodynamics (like dimples on a golf ball).
