Trump is ALWAYS lying.

Meh.

When I want to know what the Deep State has to say I'll read the failing New York Times.

Of course he's wrong.  He's always wrong.  And he knows he's wrong.  But he, and all Repugnicans for that matter, knows that if they make voting more accessible to more people (that is, particular types of people they don't want voting), they'll lose the hell out of the election, and they can't have that.  So whole-spun bullshiat like "VODURR FRAUD!!" gets spewed everywhere in the hopes that repetition will breed belief, along with closing down loads of polling stations in regions full of "undesirables," and restricting polling hours, just to make sure those filthy peons have the least chance of marking their X beside a democrat.

PICKLE! CAN I FIRE HER?

2020-05-28 12:02:58 PM
He's not going to like it when someone tries to read it to him and he cuts them off before they get four Tweets in and he Tweets something stupid in response.

2020-05-28 12:17:56 PM
It's not whether or not he's wrong.  He is.

It's whether or not he has the power to be wrong and get away with it.  Right now, he does.

This is what governance is to authoritarians. Stop treating them or him as honest actors.

2020-05-28 12:18:02 PM
Is there an IG nearby that he can fire for this insolence?

2020-05-28 12:18:30 PM
A guy Trump's age should really be careful about kneejerk reactions. He could slip and land on the colostomy bag attached to his feeding tube.

Evidence doesn't sway these people. They know they're already right so what's the point of trying to prove them wrong? It's like arguing with a Creationist.

FTFA:  Federal Election Commission (FEC) commissioner Ellen Weintraub on Wednesday strongly hit back at claims from President Trump that mail-in voting leads to high levels of fraud, asserting that there is "no basis" for such allegations and that the falsehoods "may well undermine the American people's faith in our democracy."

Uh.... That is exactly the whole point here lady.

More apropos: He's not telling the lie to evade truth. He's telling the lie to create policy (that elections are fraudulent, you cannot trust the results, therefore I must stay in power indefinitely).

This is straight of the Goebbels playbook. An explanation:

She cited a report from something called the Brennan center:

https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/false-narrative-vote-mail-fraud

The interesting thing about that report is all the ways they say identity is verified with mail in ballots.

However, I've been told verifying people's identity when they vote is racist.  So who knows what to believe.

I will say, drastically altering the way a state does their election 5 months before it happens is a recipe for Iowa caucus level disasters

Remember when the goal of Twitter was to limit character usage to like 144 or whatever so people would be more succinct, then they had to raise the cap to 240ish.

At 60 "Tweets" it's an article.

But no, our attention strained monkey brains would rather read 60 "Tweets" and we're stuck with that worthless platform, why, how the hell should I know I never could figure out Twitter, it sucks.

You have never been told that.
What you have been told, repeatedly, is that the systems both in place and proposed are unfairly slanted against the poor and minorities, and that any such attempt at verification must be equitable and equally accessible to ALL voters.
But by all means, please proceed.

Idiots do suck it up hook line and sinker tho...  every single tweet trump does about election fraud has all the usual replies about how california has all this fraud last election that turned a couple districts blue, of course with no evidence or anything.

no matter what this person says, it will fall on deaf ears to the people who need to know this.
the rest of us already know this.

That is not at all implausible.  I still tend, for some reason, to recoil at the thought that Trump and the right-wing are literally running through the Nazi playbook -- as in, intentionally, and knowingly using Nazi techniques to suppress, oppress, and steal the election -- and are instead just kind of incidentally imitating what the Nazis did without knowing the Nazis did it first, because that's almost too horrible to believe, and yet I can't reconcile my reticence to believe that with the reality that it's exactly what seems to be going on.

I also don't want to wish that Trump's presidency ends the way Hitler's did, and yet...

Trump can't fire her any more than he can fire a Federal Judge.  There's no wiggle room here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Election_Commission

The commission is made up of six members, who are appointed by the president of the United States and confirmed by the United States Senate. Each member serves a six-year term, and two seats are subject to appointment every two years.[6] Commissioners can, however, serve after their terms expire if they are not replaced.[5] By law, no more than three commissioners can be members of the same political party, and at least four votes are required for any official commission action.

Following Matthew Petersen's resignation on August 31, 2019, the commission has had only three members, and is unable to conduct most of its regulatory and decision-making functions. It has not had six members for multiple years following after Ann Ravel's resignation in March 2017 and Lee Goodman's resignation in February 2018.[5]

Donald Trump nominated James E. Trainor III on September 14, 2017. It was not until May 19, 2020 that Trainor's nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate, thus restoring the commission's ability to hold a quorum with four sitting members.[7]

The chairmanship of the commission rotates among the members each year, with no member serving as chairman more than once during a six-year term. However, a member may serve as chair more than once by serving beyond the six-year mark if no successor is appointed; for example, Ellen L. Weintraub was chairperson in 2003, 2013, and 2019.[8]

Note that while she is a Democrat, she was actually appointed by Dubya, due to the "no more than three from any political party" thing.  Also note that other than the new guy (confirmed nine days ago), the other three members have all overstayed their terms by between 7 and 13 years due to no replacements (and there still are only four members, which is the first time there's been a quorum since last August (meaning no business could be done without one)).

60 tweets, eh? If the strategy of those with the responsibility to inform the public in the constant battle of misinformation is to come up with a 60 tweet reply for every false accusation then we are all truly farked.

And when he does it anyways... who is going to hold him responsible?

How many IGs have been fired? Aren't they protected? Aren't whistle blowers protected?

I hate to say it, but if a president does something and ignores those that would tell him "no", there's pretty much fark all any of us can do about it.

It's not intentional, they just happen to be doing the same kind of thing (conservative authoritarianism) and so they both naturally adopted the same successful tactics.

Trump always has the right to fire IGs.  He's supposed to have cause, and he ignored that, but that's different than a member of a board with a fixed term (and infinite extensions if there is no new appointment).

I would be quite satisfied were his presidency to end the same way as Warren G. Harding.  According to accounts, his wife was reading him a very complimentary op-ed in the Saturday Evening Post while he was recovering from an illness.
At least, in that way, there would be a peaceful transition to a less autocratic personality. And if it were to happen in the next couple of months, there would be an enormous power play in the white house and the GOP that would certainly sink their 2020 election bids.
Hell, I'd even take Kim Jong-il's manner of death: Have a heart attack while riding a train and being ridden by a prostitute.
And seeing how he lived his life, both are fair matches for how he should end it.
