Why would a good American need to visit any other country?

2020-05-28 9:03:22 AM
"American travellers are about to be pariahs in this new world."

*puts on his best combination accent of Canada, New Zealand, Australian, and all over the UK*

Well that's right bollocks, mate. Good thin' I ain't wonna them, doncha know?

Maybe the rest of the world will pay for the wall.

Time for a "The world respects us again" tweet from Trumpy.

2020-05-28 11:48:55 AM
Disappointed I am. I really enjoy world travel and have lots of places left on my bucket list.

Of course, this will be temporary. Key factor remains voting Trump and Republican enablers out of office.

So vote for your country's sake. And, if not for your Union, for me then. 😊

I am eagerly awaiting to see Trump's reaction when the first European country to ban US citizens from visiting due to health concerns steps forward.

Nasty Angela Merkel says she doesn't want Americans in Germany.  We pay NATO bigly!  Maybe time for tariffs and respect!

We'll be fine travelling to other anti-science right wing hellholes. Let our covid strains mingle a bit, see where it goes.

I can see that one of the first things on President Biden's To Do list will need to have an apology tour just to remove the stink from the last 3.5 years.

2020-05-28 12:51:20 PM
Yes, the USA will become a pariah - just like the other 95% of the world that didn't have the good fortune of being on a sparsely inhabited island.

2020-05-28 12:53:45 PM
This was brewing ever since Americans had to sew Canadian flags to their pack packs to not be completely shiat on by the locals way back when. Sorry guys.

2020-05-28 12:53:57 PM
We're keeping our mutual border closed for an indefinite period (except, I know, for essential trade stuff).
And, as for me?  Like most Canadians I live within a few minutes (about 20 minutes by car) from the border, but have not and will not visit the States for any reason until you have an actual grown-up back in your White House.  Heck, I've been boycotting The States since he was "elected".  Covid is just the pickle on the sauerkraut.

We could call it the Axis of Idiocy.

2020-05-28 12:54:46 PM
As a Canadian that - until recently - traveled very frequently to the US for my work, I am very much not pleased with the idea of going back anytime soon, but I am concerned that eventually my employer will have to lay me off because my entire territory is a large part of the US and because it looks like the US not going to get it's s--t together anytime soon.

So thanks for that you orange farking buffoon, and thanks to 63 million idiots and thanks to your utterly screwed up 'democracy'.

I sometimes wonder if, being Puerto Rican, I could seek political asylum, maybe in Spain or France. Hey, mon français n'est pas trop mal maintenant.

The wealthy and powerful will alway$ find way$ around other countrie$' rule$.

As always, though, poorer people with actual legitimate reasons to go abroad will be the ones that get hurt by this administration's utter stupidity.

2020-05-28 1:01:28 PM
The fact that we allowed Trump to become president was more than enough reason for the rest of the world to shun Americans.

ouch.

Yeah, its the rest of the world that are all wrong.

Can you grasp the concept of Trump screwing something up? Cuz there are a lot of examples to pick from.

If Trump is who we are as Americans, we deserve to be isolated.

What? a good patriotic Canadian is avoiding coming to the US to shop and stiffing your country of all those tax dollars, it's unheard of!

Absolutely yes.  NO cross-border shopping.  Period.

Another 4 year of this bullshiat and most of us won't be able to afford to leave anyway.  Made a toilet paper run today and had to stand in line while it was unloaded from the truck.  The only things I stood in line for during previous administrations were concert tickets and autographs.  Thanks, President Takes No Responsibility.  If Trump wins a second term, I fully expect to be standing in line for my MAGA bread and KAG gruel next to some dumpy white dude in camo telling me I should be kissing Trump's ass because things would be oh so much worse if Sleepy Joe were president.

To my parents in the South: if the US undergoes a Soviet-like breakup, and we find ourselves living in separate countries, I'm not coming back.

Just trying to one for them now:(  We submitted them for renewal in February and was probably about a week away from getting them when the entire process ground to a complete stop.

We have travel plans in the fall we'll need to commit to in one month...not having the passports is just one more piece of uncertainty we have to consider.

Yes, Japan (126 million, 899/sq. mi.) and South Korea (51M, 1366/sq. mi.), Hong Kong (17,311/sq. mi.), Singapore (21,646 per sq. mi.) are sparsely populated.  Particularly when compared to the US (94/sq. mi.).
Germany, the UAE, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Singapore are also notable islands.

Not that island means much in a world with jet travel.  The US only has two land borders, and didn't get covid because of either of them - it got it from China and Italy.

At one point, the State Department did allow for emergency renewals if you could prove you had travel plans (eg a plane ticket) but you had to make an appointment to visit an office.  Haven't checked to see if that service was shut down.

Taiwan has a population density of 1704/mi2 and .3 deaths per million population and is all of a 100 miles of the coast of Mainland China. But I am sure the potato head will be here shortly to explain that Taiwan is "sparsely inhabited" in some way.
