Do you think he was in on this one too? He did kill that girl back in 1999, so he has experience in that..

Germany has stricter rules about libel, fake news, etc., than most countries. So trolls who want to make trouble for people will use a VPN connection to make their complaint come from Germany. Pretty standard stuff at this point.

Wouldn't that make it easier to remove if you're originating it from a stricter country? If Twitter follows individual country laws, a request for takedown by Germany would get it axed fairly quickly, at least in Germany.

Exactly. Hence the "I'm in Germany, see my IP?" VPN trickery when they report posts they don't like.

Ahhhh I was confused. So the Trumpian troll used the VPN to originate the complaint from there. I thought you were saying God used the VPN to originate his tweet from Germany which is where I was lost.

No, it's not.

Well, not without a new law at least. Ask Speaker Pelosi about it.

Thanks for explaining that. At first, I thought they misspelled "germane".

What if we create a story that Trump kicks puppies?  Would that violate terms?  Especially if it's posted on a site that is admitted to be a news satire site?

Legally, it might not be a bad idea for a controversial twitter account to originate out of the country with the strictest laws. It's kind of like saying, "come at me!".
The account-holder, content creator would try to tailor the content to be *legal*, but having originate in the strict country would be a good test.
Once the aggrieved party complains, if the platform does not delete the post, because the platform's local lawyers can't identify a legal problem, then the account holder would not be too concerned about other jurisdictions.
E.g., I assume the "god" account is held by some 30-something grad student in Idaho. Twitter employs a multi-national law firm like Wilmer Hale. The grad student is getting a free first-pass libel screening by Wilmer Hale lawyers. Something like that.

No the EO is about making lists of people to monitor for posting AntiTrump stuff. So they can arrest you for exercising your freedom of speech.

I would love to see Twitter respond to the president "If you don't like being fact checked, stop lying on our platform."

Oh I get it. To Trump's Twitter followers (adherents) it's akin to their "personal relationship with Jesus" except this graven idol speaks, like the Mechanical Turk.

Except Trump is way worse at Chess and I have no idea where his handler is hiding.

2020-05-28 8:27:34 AM
What's funny about this is as believable as the story is and as delightful and worthy of being compared to one of Larry Kramer's stunts, as soon as libs found out it was a joke, they dropped it. They didn't form research groups called CarolAnon and create birds nests of schizophrenic flow charts or even hashtag for more than 48 hours. Trump did however try to regulate social media.

Man, if only some enterprising soul had thought to classify content providers as utilities a few years ago, permitting more regulation of what they can and cannot "limit" or remove from their control.

Oh well, I guess we just can't get good government...

// not actually sure Net Neutrality rules would have helped or hurt here
// but I thought the GOP argument against regulation was that businesses could self-regulate, and that The Marketplace (not The Federal Government with its taxpayer funded jackboots) would eject bad actors
// n'est-ce pas, conservatives, or is it only when they shut up the libs that they're appropriately self-regulating?

Sid Vicious' Corpse: I would love to see Twitter respond to the president "If you don't like being fact checked, stop lying on our platform."

I'd love to see them ghost ban him. Imagine him checking back, seeing his own brilliant comment posted there for the world to embrace, and nothing. No likes, no retweets, no comments, just nothing. He'd post again and again, looking for that validation like a junkie looking for that next fix, and get denied again and again. The only redress is to take to another platform, like his "coronavirus daily briefing" to let the world know of his new hatred of Twitter. A complete ranting meltdown about Twitter after being asked about today's 1500 dead. Another rant about twitter after being asked about testing capacity.
