Perino said that Zuckerberg told her that Facebook refuses to intervene in censoring public posts unless there's a threat of imminent harm.

And most of the time not even then.

Subby, a coward is someone too afraid to do something they want to do.

Zuckerberg is a billionaire who owns the world's biggest unregulated propaganda machine. Can you imagine any reason why he might in fact approve of his giant information superpipeline being used in ways that support politicians who give lots of money and tax breaks and legal protections to billionaires who own big unregulated propaganda machines?

There is the perfect word to describe this....CALLOW....I don't use that product and never will.
You willingly give them a lot of personal information, and allow them to mine and squeeze out
every bit of personal data about you and everyone you are connected with for the, "privilege"
of using their website as a message board and e-mail system..Both of which exist in many forms
that DON'T do that...

So let me get this straight: if I repost a meme about Trump that is plausible but not quite true, Facebook is going to highlight and flag with it a "check this rebuttal" flag.

But when Trump repeatedly, consistently and deliberately spews out harmful falsehoods, Zuckerberg's position is that "I just believe strongly that Facebook shouldn't be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online," and that "Private companies probably shouldn't be, especially these platform companies, shouldn't be in the position of doing that."

Huh.

Ran away would imply there was a chance that he was going to take a stand.

The Zuck has too much invested into the "Sh*t Stir* model to rock the boat. Not while Buffett just sits there, billions ahead of the game, and nigh immune to shifting winds by investing diversely as opposed to putting all those eggs in one platform basket...not to mention having all those human emotions and 'wisdom' coming from age, instead of from books and code...

Okay. Open up your mansion to the public without any warning signs anywhere, allowing any homeless guy to tell guests anything, knowingly standing by if it's dangerously wrong info, and see where that same approach gets you.

FB is an evil drug. I'm not completely against recreational drugs. But if you discover that the money you spend on your recreational drugs is used by corrupt people to do harmful things, you have to understand that you are complicit in those harmful things.

Even if you don't spend money on FB, your usage of it supports them. If you have FB cookies and you take some internet "personality test" to answer some survey about which member of Friends you are most like, you've added yourself to their profit engine. Don't. They are evil, demonstrably evil.

Just this past February we announced $2M in funding to support independent research proposals on polarization," a Facebook spokesperson told The Verge when asked about the report.

They found out that polarization drives traffic so they didn't do anything about it.

I would highly advise any organizing groups to get off FB posthaste.  Signal and Telegram are both better choices for now, but nothing beats in person meetings when those become possible again.

Finally deleted my FB three months ago after leaving it inactive for 2 years.

Zuckerberg is in the right on this one.  He is not a coward, he is the opposite of a coward, weathering the storm of liberal discontent over the failure to shut people up.

When social media platforms get in the business of deciding what speech should be allowed on their platforms, they do in fact become arbiters of free speech and then become overwhelmed by constant political disputes, e.g. "why did you block this guy but not that guy".

And it's simply impossible to check everything or to decide what to ban.  And there's a reason why the government doesn't do that except in extreme cases to prevent public harm.

There is already a remedy for Trump's stupid posts about Joe Scarborough.. Scarborough can sue him.
This call to police speech is just a cop out.

You're claiming that Twitter shut Trump up?

Did they delete his content?  Did they say he couldn't say it?  Suspend his account?  No, they put a caveat next to his post, indicating that it contained provable misinformation.  Which it did.  That's it.  They didn't take it down or suspend him or even reprimand him.

When you say something on a public forum, and there is a response that says "uh sorry dude, that's crap".  That's not censorship.  That's called speaking in a free and open society. That's how things are supposed to work.

This isn't Zuckerberg chickening out. This is Zuckerberg saying he doesn't give a fark what happens on Facebook as long as it makes him money. Remember just a day or so ago it was discovered that Facebook's own research said they're radicalizing people. Doesn't matter, as long as it makes the money.

Yeah, Facebook let someone live stream a mass shooting at a mosque in New Zealand. If that isn't a failure to police their own content, I don't know what is.

And CNN, MSNBC, NYT, etc.

Advocacy is not the same as meddling, and you can add CNN, MSNBC, NYT and many others to your list.
It would be nice if we had news organizations that didn't advocate for one side or the other, but the fact is that it's a reflection of the extreme polarization of the electorate.

Requiring social media platforms to be political and to police the truth is a big mistake.

I loved how the final scene in that movie shows him slouched in a chair, endlessly hitting refresh while hoping to see his Ex accept his friend request and during the entire time it just lists all the misery he put himself through for being a horrible human being. And then right before it cuts to black it mentions how he's the youngest billionaire while he still looks so defeated and miserable.

It's just Jerry Springer ported from TV to PC.

I never liked Jerry Springer or Facebook but CSB: my (now dead) crazy junkie uncle in Arizona once saw a woman appear on the Jerry Springer show because her fat kids were being bullied or something, uncle was so moved by this that he found the woman, wooed and married her. It did not work out.
