I'm sure he means CA too, which had a budget surplus before this. So yeah, the blue ones.

When he loses the majority in November the Senate doors should be welded shut to prevent a lame duck session or he'll do more damage in two months than the Coronavirus teaming up with Cannibal Hornets and the aliens from Independence Day.

Blue states pay more taxes and have better fiscal management.  I'm sick of working to pay for Cletus's diabeetus medication and MeeMaw's oxygen tanks down in toothless inbreeder land.

Too risky. The toddler might experience an epiphany that turns him liberal.

Rich white kids with easy lives often think they're conservatives until they've met some people and done some things. Hell, I thought I was a Republican until I was 25 at least.

Monies spent on federal parks and paying for federal programmes aren't the fault of the states. So, they don't get included into the fiscal status.

And it's not red states which racked up huge pension liabilities over the years by doling out massive, unsustainable contracts to various service unions.

This is a straight-up handout to red states while leaving the likes of Illinois and NY in the lurch.

So yeah fark em blue states can just keep all their tax dollars and red states can piss off.

Good point, kids have an inherent need for things to be fair and that wouldn't work at all.

I am oft reminded of the Benjamin Franklin quote "We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately." Republicans always seem to miss the point that the US is in this mess together, not just our supporters and their supporters.

I find it hard to believe McConnell isn't aware that Kentucky is also staring down the abyss right now in fiscal terms. The only net benefactor to withholding a state funding backstop right now are special interests, I guess Mitch never has to leave power when most of the public trust is sold off to foreign speculators.

Ok.  Let's apply the same criteria to companies and people.  Only businesses and individuals that don't need the money can have any emergency relief.  I'm sure your fiscal restraint will be rewarded in November.

Okay... recognizing that the leech state / donor state thing is something of a red herring in the first place, I'm trying to figure out why the person representing the state that's literally two up from the bottom of the give to take ratio list when the primary beneficiary of the inherent disproprotionality of the bailout is literally at the top of that list.

Like... the fact that that's a joke and not a real thing is mostly because the current intersection of nationalization of the agricultural industry, foreign policy, and domestic policy adds up to a massive giveaway of trillions in tax dollars to places like Kentucky every year.  When the subject of states leeching federal money to compensate for their own internal fiscal inferiority comes up McConnel should be the first in line to shut the fark up and get back in line, not the idiot bringing up the meme in the first place.

// Actually the biggest potential disaster for red states in the current clusterfark is the impending threat of the GOP's current agenda succeeding.  If agriculture gets re-privatized and the economy is de-globalized... no more Farm Bill, and suddenly 9 in 10 red states have 50% unemployment even without the plague helping out.  It's actually even more astonishingly, obstinately self-destructive than any of the shiat they get tricked into voting for to hurt black people that also hurts them.

Those pensions have been "unsustainable" as long as I can remember, much like social security. When are they actually going to collapse? Or is this really one of those accounting tricks where sometime in the future (maybe 2050), they will have to pay 90 cents on the dollar rather than the full pension if they literally do nothing to fix the problem? And this is used to attack programs that help normal people?

The older I get the more I notice that handouts to corporations and defense contracts are always sustainable but assistance to normal people is always unsustainable. It's an interesting and thought-provoking pattern.

Let's just Balkanize and be the "states of America" then.

I know I'll get "dah comrade" replies for this but Putin may have done us a favor. It's time for a velvet divorce. Irreconcilable differences. Blue states lift up red states and keep them from going full "the handmaid's tail" but red states hold blue states back from aspiring to higher ideals.

Mitch only cares about himself and "winning" the game of politics. Now, he might be outplayed at some point and lose that game, but he doesn't give two shiats about the people of Kentucky or the United States.

Apart from stacking benches, funneling more money from labor to capital while starving the government for the next poor schmuck to deal with, and dismantled several important federal agencies, including the one that handles pandemic preparation, as a random example, yeah.  This whole Trump Presidency thing hasn't actually been that bad, all around.  We should give the GOP another chance.

Reading the methodology for Fiscal Stability, it entirely boils down to pension liabilities.  That's about the most base level analysis possible, and its functionally misleading to equate "Pension Liabilities" with "Fiscal Stability".

And in an hilarious twist of fate, the other graph IGNORES pension liabilities!  That's amazing!  Like... you couldn't have chosen a more ironic combination of graphs to think supported your point.

Anybody want to explain how those data actually demonstrate that those states he ranks as "stable" are actually so-called because they are functionally reliant on federal handouts?  Or that they have so underfunded state programs as to have to accept not having those programs or to depend on the feds to provide them?  Because I haven't seen it show the capacity to learn yet.

End handing out public employee pensions now. The jobs pay plenty.

Deal with the obligations that exist, but to continue to hand out lifetime pensions is pulling some states under, yet they continue with the practice.
