A strong central leadership is absolutely vital in combating this pandemic. There's simply no way of controlling the spill over borders, much less the coordination it takes to get testing done right and efficiently.

We are completely boned unless some miracle happens.

This is the thing that I just don't get. This virus will continue to take its toll without the basic tools of widespread testing and contact tracing. It's foundational in epidemics and the best way to start curbing illness and death while waiting for treatments and vaccines. Yet this federal government wants very little to do with it. It's sickening watching this happen. It's just willful ignorance. Its just watching people drown and pointing and laughing when you could easily throw them a life preserver. It's all just beyond the pale for me.

Comparing Trump to any non-human primate does those primates a disservice. If there was a farking tarsier as dumb and malicious as Trump, it would have died before it reached adulthood.

Ever worked with a manager who never takes on responsibility for managing a crisis because it might result in them getting blamed, but reliably puts themselves in the line of communication so they can steal credit for any good work even if they had nothing to do with it?

If the Federal Government does something and puts the Trump admin front and center than when things go badly Trump's face will be firmly attached to what went wrong.

By doing almost nothing and then picking which state efforts to take credit for Trump can tout successes while avoiding blame for any disasters.

This entire admin is a master class in toxic management styles, but the COVID19 response really takes it to the next level.

Yeah I've been reading about that too. And the fact that minorities have been hit the most. Watching the local news last night (I'm in Vegas) they were saying how the most cases were in northern Las Vegas and the city of North Las Vegas (Low income areas) and how Latinos (Our biggest minority group) are disproportionately affected by it. Big surprise.

Washington State received a load of Q-tips from the federal government, which intended the swabs be used for testing.
They are not individually wrapped long sterile Q-tips; just basically, boxes of Q-tips.
When the state asked for clarification, the response was "they were labeled incorrectly. The bulk packaged swabs can be used if extra precautions are taken to make sure nothing is contaminated." Mind you "extra precautions" mean masks, gloves - and often, gowns - which are changed between each patient or use - you know, all the stuff we don't have enough of!
King 5: Washington State question bulk shipment of Q-tip style COVID-19 testing swabs

Jared and Donald have f*cked this up as badly and royally as they f*ck up their real estate deals.

Hey a month or so ago Trump said it would be like a miracle and go away, you know when we had 15 cases. So any day now.

They have calculated the costs of losing 'human capital stock' and it equates to profit in the survivors competing for the same jobs at a reduced pay rate.

I wish Washington would fark up only to a degree the feds do, they doubled down and funneled hundreds of millions of dollars in fed and stat funds to Nigeria. I don't blame the feds for not trusting them with real swabs.  They would probably have sent them to Somalia anyway.

it's so much worse than just mismanaging it. They are also doing their level best to stop anyone else from actually managing the crisis because it "might make them look bad" by comparison.

I have never seen a level of depravity like this and I have been observing Republican policies closely for over 2 decades now.

This, 10,000x THIS.  Seeing the so-called "Leader of the Free World" check off every single incompetent and toxic self-servicing Bad Middle Manager tactic and trope witht the most powerful military and biggest economy in human history behind him is beyond depressing.

Fire anyone who disagrees with you, especially if they're right, and don't forget to discredit them.  Lie to people's faces but make sure the documentation you show says you were right all along and never said that.  Tell people to do something and if it works, take credit.  If it fails, blame them publicly and deny ever telling them to do that - in fact, produce false documentation claiming you told them to do the opposite, which you've had ready since the beginning, just in case.  Ad hominems all over the place.  You're not raising a serious potential issue that you want to help the enterprise avoid suffering, you're "not a team player" and "can't adjust to the new way of things".

It's beyond horrific.  When it happens at your local Home Depot, you eventually hope some regional or store manager is smart enough to fire & replace the toxic department head, and everyone can breathe a little easier while schlepping paint or lamps or whatever.  When it happens to a superpower... what do you do?  Who fixes this?

The really terrifying realization is that I have never, even once, seen a toxic boss leave their position voluntarily  except for a higher-paying, more-prestigious one they somehow lucked into.  Even in the face of mass walkouts, they'd just replace their staff with cronies and chug right along as if it wasn't their fault.  Since Trump has undoubtedly never held such a prestigious or profitable position in his entire life...

They've come to the conclusion that the whole thing is FUBARed - best thing is for Trump to distance himself from the whole mess and blame other people. Nobody's buying it except his people.
