Have we not learned that none of this polling, none of the pre-election estimates, none of this means anything.

The stupids show up, 100% of the time.

Everyone else can't be bothered. Will they show up this time? That's the only factor in play and how do you poll that?

Because it's an important point that isn't just worth repeating, it's essential to repeat it.

Good poll numbers are nice but they don't mean jack shiat until Election Day.

So yes, every article about Biden's poll numbers should also include comments discouraging people from getting complacent and reminding them that in 2016, Clinton lead all polls, too.

All the Taxed Enough Already Chicagoans moved there too.

I can't blame them. Look at Chicago. Only major metro where housing prices were stagnant and property taxes kept climbing while the city was spending millions of dollars on blood money for families.

This!

If anything polls probably work against the candidate who comes out on top. How many of the millions of voters who stayed home in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania in '16 did so because, "Eh, I live in a solid blue state; what's the point of going out and standing in line just to contribute to the inevitable Clinton victory?"

I don't know if that's why, but I have noticed the shifting tilt -- in both states, I grew up in Iowa.

At the same time, I've noticed a lot of criticism of Trump that wasn't there a couple years ago.

At least neither one is Wisconsin. The political behavior in that state sounds really messed up to me.

I'm in 100% agreement. If 2016 taught us anything, it's that probable does not mean guaranteed. Sometimes the long shot wins because everything goes right/wrong. Anyone who can vote but chooses not to because the polls guarantee a victory is a fool.

I'm only recently aware of this idea because it has never occurred to me to view any election this way.  I've never looked at an election poll and thought, "I can just sit this one out."  Where do they think those projected margins come from--everyone else's vote but theirs? People really are just very stupid, lazy creatures.

If millions of people stayed home out of three states with less than 20 million people total on the basis of a poll that said candidate X will likely win, that would an incredible find.

I mean, I'm sure you, without any polling, know in your gut that 20% or so of voters in those states stayed home for that reason, and your response will no doubt tell me you also know which candidate they would have voted for. That is a massive percentage. 5 million people out of 10 million voted in 2016 in Michigan, so you are talking what, a solid third of the non- voters chose not to, primarily because Nate silver and Gallup?

And you know this without any polling at all. Just your gut, maybe speaking to a few people irl and what not, right?

It is farking amazing how many smrt fark posters are positive they know more than any political pundit or polling group. Can I borrow a million? Because knowledge like yours is worth tens of millions of dollars. I assume you are cashing in on it, and not just giving it away for free on Fark.

To have your finger on the pulse of millions of people across three states... That's a motherfarking skill bro. Monetize that shiat. Or donate it to the candidates whose platforms you like and save the world.

The Biden campaign should probably run spots in September & October with footage from the utter shock on people's faces when Hillary Clinton lost to drive home the point that every vote matters.

That, and actually campaigning in those states (yeah, I went there).

We know Americans want change, but we cannot become complacent. That hard 20% of his fanatical supporters are a formidable force to suppress the right of other Americans to vote while lying, cheating and stealing every chance they get.

We cannot play nice come election day, the rejection of Trumpism must be thunderous and undeniable or he will find a way to cheat his way into a second term.

Agreed.

Literally nobody active enough in politics to post in this tab is going to stay home in November. Or, if one of us is, no amount of telling them not to is likely to change that. I really don't get the endless repetition of this message here. It is as useful than discussing whether a Chicago bowl of cheese on crust is a pizza, and less interesting.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I just don't get it.

/Though I'm a believer that actions reveal desires. 90 million consistent non-voters may want change, but they don't want it enough to get it. Like me and chicken tenders I'm going to make later vs my "want" to not be fat. I know what I want more.

We could start by making Nov. 3rd a national holiday. That would help a lot of people who can't/won't vote for work reasons, and aren't those the essential workers we need to keep our economy running? Hearing from everyone strikes fear into the heart of autocrats everywhere. Imagine vote via internet, like everything else, but I'm dreaming now.

Apathy is the default for so many. I know I have to fight it myself, and this all seems so BIG. What could my little vote do? Could it make a difference? So many are convinced the answer is NO, and that's what the Republicans want them to believe.

There's both good and bad to this.

Good because Donnie farkface is blowing millions on his campaign and it's not doing shiat for him.  His greatest single asset is voter apathy, because his voter bloc sure as shiat ain't getting bigger.

but bad because his plan for actual re-election is cheating his goddamn ass off.  Campaigning is something he wants to do to satiate his ego, because we damn well know losing the popular vote really hurt him in the fee-fees.

2020-05-25 5:56:48 PM
If the electorate is still alive come November, Biden just needs to flip PA, MI and WI. All of those scenarios seem likely considering Trump has urged revolt in those states.

If Florida swings away from Trump he's toast.
