Five months into 2020 and it already feels like a new era: now there is only BC and AC -- before and after coronavirus.

I'm pretty sure we're still at the With Coronavirus stage at the moment. Which is appropriate, really, because it feels like the whole world's going down the WC right now.

Does anyone know anything about this 'slow disengagement'? Is it lack of boots on the ground in Syria?

There are certainly a lot of countries including Australia and the UK getting on the anti-China train which the US seems to be leading. And that may be the biggest global issue for the next decade and beyond. We'll see.

Harlee: When does the Donnie kick out the UN from New York, or the UN say fark it and leave?

Right now, the permanent members of the Security Council are major actors in the Mueller Report. In order to make Trump happen, for example, Stephen Harper needed Canada to lose it's SC seat. There is a lot of coordination that is going way over Trump's head.

Trump is just another Al Capone, a tool of rich Americans who, in a time of ideological crisis, needed a mobster in an executive branch seat. It's a pattern in American governance that forms one of the strong backbones of "Critical Criminology." To understand Trump, Crit. Crim. says you ask questions like "When does the UN leave New York?" then figure out "Why doesn't the UN leave NY today?" The subfield of Crim. is called "Crimes of the powerful."

It's cool because crimes of the powerful is a subfield that argues the 1% are not committing conspiracies, since every damned day they harm the 99% in ways that, if any of us did, we would be arrested and imprisoned for conspiracy. Everything they do is a conspiracy by criminal law standards. "Insider trading" for example is a meaningless phrase for Fortune 500 CEOs. (Insider trading is used prosecute our friends and family who get good stock tips on the down-low). We need a whole other way of understanding their crimes, because the 1% use literal mobsters as violent executive branch leaders like Mayor or President to maintain their power when the 99% are strong. (Capone and Ness and unions are *the* classic example).

The UN headquarters is also one of those potential mobbed up executive government branches for transnational and international law (human rights and trade). But it's a contested space that, so far, was never purely...

Fark it I should just write a book. Sorry for being so long winded.

Just writing "Obama bad" will get it retweeted 657,000 times by Russian bots, so it's also a pathetic schlep for clicks.

I also seem to recall a mastermind terrorist dying because Obama ordered it... Funny/not funny how the writer skips that little tidbit -- along with the fact that not having a screeching psycho in the White House will go a long way to repairing our credibility in the world.

Okay, but it's in the last sentence of the article. Roughly, the article is structured like this:

Trump is an asshole, he did X1, which weakened US power
Trump is an asshole, he did X2, which weakened US power
Trump is an asshole, he did Xn, which weakened US power (and so on and so forth).

So, it's a pretty detailed takedown. Decision, action, cause, result.

And then, out of nowhere, it ends on a ...BUT OBAMA! There's no explanation of how Obama "withdrew from the world". It just lands there, shirt cocking it.

I guess the problem is that while satisfying emotionally, it doesn't accomplish anything useful.

Like, if you put 100 experts in a room and said, "Okay guys, find something we can do that will help," I don't think any of them would say, "Hey, let's tell China to get farked." I don't know what they would say, but I don't think it's that.

I guess some of us are too stupid to understand English, particularly if English is your second language.
Or are you stating that trump and all republicans are so weak and Obama is so superior to them that they are powerless, simple, lazy dumbf*cks and just let things happen.

Even then, CNN reporters are fairly stupid in general.  Genius' compared to the smartest trumplican, but stupid in comparison to real people.

Obama came in promising re-engagement, and guess what happened?  After the first six months of a Dem majority in both houses, the GOP regained control and began systematically undermining virtually any initiative.  You think trying to pass health care was a bloodbath?  Remember all the hoops to jump through to get the U.S. into the Paris climate accords, the Iranian peace deal, the recognition of Cuba?  Okay, he didn't take his shine box to Israel when he met with Bibi and heard his desires (don't forget the Beebs telling Congress if Mittens Romney wasn't elected, that "bomb" graphic he's been carrying around for forty years would fer sure go off THIS time!); Obama wasn't enchanted with Pooty, and let anyone know it; and felt that China had some great trades and good food, but there was no need to sniff their butts to discern their true intentions.  This was not "disengagement", these were attempts made that were never solidified through Congress, and sabotaged whenever possible by either legislative means, or lying to the public about their meanings ("Obama's apologizing to the rest of the world!  He's letting the globe walk all over us!  They're laughing at us!")  What Trump is actually doing (destroy anything Obama touched; look at the world only as an opportunity for largesse) and what Obama did (redefine America's role in a world according to both our desires and what our allies wanted from us) are worlds apart, and this article demonstrates some lazy writing with a crumb for conservative readers to keep them from tossing it aside.  Obviously it worked, as we're discussing it, but it's still something of a cheat.
