So trumpers that means if there's 100 ICU beds 97 are being occupied by patients, and there are only 3 available.

chucknasty: much like people who ignore hurricane warnings and drown, I am not rooting for their death but hard to feel much about stupid people doing stupid things.

The sad part is that unlike weather alerts being ignored, most of these people haven't heard about how severe this virus can get.  They have been taught to trust their leaders and ignore the media, and they don't really know where to go now for info that could save their lives.

I'm past rage and fury for these people.  I think of them as overgrown toddlers, germ vectors that don't know any better.  The adults in the room have to save the valuables by child proofing the room, and redirecting the attention until the toddler matures.  It may or may not happen.

I've reached the point of just fixing my little corner of chaos by sitting inside and letting the stupidity burn itself out.  The curve is going to have to explode right in some people's faces, because they simply can't learn any other way.  Hearing about the New York, Spain or Italy examples wasn't enough.

To make it even worse, Alabama should have been the state in the best position to weather this storm since they have 3.9 ICU beds per 10,000 Bamanians, which is the highest among US states.  NY has 2.3/10K.

They're probably thinking "it's ok, because Trump hoarded all those ventilators and protective gear to help us red states," never realizing said equipment was long since sold off so Jared Kushner and his frat brothers Chad, Tad and Skidmark can get new megayachts to race off Mar-a-Lago to honor the fallen troops this Memorial Day.

Let me offer you both the silver lining I keep hoping for: Is it the worst possible outcome if the South loses a large chunk of the population in a Census year? I mean, I know these folks aren't gonna be timely with returning their Census forms-  fewer Southern Electoral College votes for a decade isn't all bad, right?

lump will say its the governors responsibility, the governor will say its the mayors responsibility. Get with the program mayor you have to find someone lower down the totem pole to blame.

But don't forget the golden patriotic rule, never ever blame a private corporation for not being prepared or doing its part. They are a multi million dollar corporation and not a person unless it comes to money and rights then they are treated like a person and have the same rights except when they exempt themselves .

But it's totally normal to have ICU beds 97% full right?  Right?

It reminds me of what my parents who live in Florida said.  Their friend is a funeral home director who told them that medical examiners told him that the examiners were so overloaded with bodies that they didn't have time to do full autopsies, so they were just listing COVID19 as the cause of death.  So that means that COVID19 is being overreported and it wasn't much to worry about.

I pointed out that even if that was true, then why in the world were medical examiners so overloaded with bodies that they can't determine a true cause of death?  Is that normal?  Something is killing people.  Sigh.

Alabama: 69 percent white
Montgomery: 58 percent black

Yep, that's your problem right there. As a Michigander, I can sympathize. The Flu Klux Klan go to their rallies with their guns, but it's the African Americans in Detroit who have taken a real hit during the pandemic. But unlike Alabama, our governor created a task force to examine the issue so we can make changes.

What did happen in NYC was bad enough. The ICUs were strained and patients did get sent to the field hospitals and hospital ship. The morgues and funeral homes were stacking up bodies like cordwood.

Why anyone would think that's "no big whoop" and be okay with it happening again and again across the country is beyond me.
