So he's shoring up support by enabling his base's demise? By all means, please proceed.

OdradekRex: So he's shoring up support by enabling his base's demise? By all means, please proceed.

Certainly a hell of a strategy. Even the ones that don't get sick are much more likely to have someone close to them that does, which kills Trump's narrative of this not being a big deal.

Expose yourselves and other unnecessarily to the disease, take drugs that don't help the disease but could give you heart issues, drink bleach, and stick a black light up your ass.

I'm starting to think he really doesn't like his supporters.

The big deal part won't matter. Some leading evangelical Trumper will claim that Biden made a pact with Lucifer to become president by killing off American Christians, "God's Chosen".

Even typing that nonsense made me throw up a little.

Everything he does is to get more support from his base, which was going to support him regardless. More people will die in exchange for nothing.

Another person close to the campaign described an April survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, which showed a double-digit decline in Trump's favorability among white evangelicals (-11), white Catholics (-12) and white mainline protestants (-18) from the previous month, as "pretty concerning."

The more people die, the happier his Christian base will be.

Yeah, they might gripe and complain about trump, but make no mistake, they will all still vote for him. Because that's what Christians do.

The conventional wisdom is that the white evangelical demographic is a rock solid monolithic block that will support Trump no matter what he does.

But recognition of some game-changers to the conventional wisdom - that Trump has made a complete mess of handling the medical emergency, that GOP and Trump's only idea for countering the economic emergency is to give tax cuts to the already rich, and that Trump is pushing for early re-opening because he truly doesn't care whether people die.

In each of those cases it is personal - they can see how Trump is endangering their health and prosperity.

So we see religious support ebbing away

Despite what he thinks, there are a lot of churches that think of their parishoners' safety first.

It's interesting that, yes Trump still has a lot if support, people really do put their personal health above politics.

He wants to kill people and even his supporters are figuring that out.

This pandemic has just about exhausted me of my empathy for these people. At this point, I just don't give a fark. Break social distancing rules. Go to church. Get infected. Bring it back home and spread it to your loved ones. Watch them die drowning in their own liquified lung tissue, and go vote for the guy that you've sworn fealty to. There's only so many warnings and recommendations you can be given before you've decided to do a really stupid thing anyway, and I think we're way past that. Go nuts, you farking plague rats.

I hope he unlocks all the churches. I hope they spiral the second wave higher than the 1918-1920 Flu. I hope you will note that the 'Spanish Flu' lasted 2 years and not just 15 days. Because the church people sure won't notice that

He may not, but his stupidity and goading could cost a lot more people (who aren't members of his base) their lives. I wouldn't care if his base wanted to drink the kool-aid and it only hurt them, but this could seriously endanger others.

Was kind of hoping for the bleach drinking and drug taking. That makes them less likely to spread it to others at least

My son works for a mega church in Alabama who are going by what scientists say and waiting for the numbers to go down. Not very surprising considering that if half the members statewide were to get it that would be at least 20,000 people  who wouldn't be able to tithe each week. And since they are mostly conservative, they could change course any time.

It's not really a surprise, for most Americans politics is a team sport/tribal identifier, with any consequences normally happening to Other People Someplace Else. There's totally some justification in calling the modern GOP a death cult, but still, when you get right down to it, most people don't want to die, and the Shiatgibbon's complete mishandling of all this is forcing everyone.. well, OK, a whole bunch of people.. to realize, yes, unlke all the other Evil Threats over the decades, this thing could actually come to my county, my town, my street and kill me. And he's doing less than nothing to stop it.

He is counting on the states to stop him. Then he can claim to support evangelicals without seeing the negative consequences of his dumb policy.

From where I'm standing, they supported a lying, adulterous, hedonistic, atheist who locked up Christ's children in cages at the border and God responded by sending us a plague.

Two can play this game.

Everything Trump does is about:

1. Boosting his popularity.

OR

2. Making money for him & his friends.

There is no #3 like helping others or solving problems.

He said he'd have a plan in place, but he did apparently say "by Monday," so that was kind of funny and not immediate like The Fanta Menace demanded.
