There is nothing wrong with him getting paid. It's not like there is a shortage of late night tv shows for free on network channels.

All this means is that less people will watch his show, especially since he won't even be hosting it.

A larger platform and getting paid for his work. How dastardly.

OH MY GOD!!!  Someone getting paid for their work?  HOW DARE THEY?

That's not good news.

I get really tired of people being fine with living in a capitalist economic model but being mad at content creators for making money.

I love creating content. I need money for shelter food and medicine.

A larger platform? YouTube vs CBS All Access?

A larger platform

Is it?  He pretty much just guaranteed that I'll never see it.  Good for him, it's going to be difficult to get paid for entertaining in at least the near future.  But I sure hope Star Trek fans like his work

But for the production values and host, SGN wasn't materially different from a typical feel-good episode of Oprah or Ellen.  Since this acquisition will upgrade the production values and substitute a host, what, exactly, is the point?

He already makes more money per year than most make in a career. There's nothing wrong with thinking he should give something back.

Maybe we should put term limits on actors and spread the wealth.

Yeah, let's start with Jimmy Fallon  I don't need to see him anymore.

Give something back? You mean the product of his skills that earned him the wealth in the first place?
What's with all the "People owe me stuff" spoiled children these days?

He wasn't doing that for exposure?

It would be hilarious if Krasinski covered this on his next episode.

"And now, some good news...for me!"

I only watched a couple episodes of SGN but the "charm" of it, to me, was how seemingly low budget and ad hoc it was.

A more professionally produced version of this seems...really hokey.

Hmm.  I'd prefer it if it was Martin Freeman.

People honestly thought he was doing this out of the goodness of his heart?

People are kinda dumb.

He should fark Pam on camera for one of the episodes.

I would watch that, even on the weird CBS channel.

Oh, the horror! Someone is going to make money off of something they produce and others consume!

Subby and the rest of the BernieBros need to pull their collective heads out of their asses. No, we're not going to live in a society where you can't make any money for yourself because everything that you produce b longs to "the people".

It isn't that he's making money. He could have done that on any regular network channel. It's that he's gone to a channel that people subscribe to for one month a year so they can binge that year's Star Trek series. Hell he could have even gone to Netflix or Hulu or Amazon. You know, channels where there is enough variety to keep people subscribed?

The older I get, the more I realize that Lars Ulrich and Chuck D were 100% right during the Napster shiat.

Everybody feels entitled to be entertained now.

It's not our fault TV and radio taught us that entertainment was free once you bought the device.

For a minute I thought that headline said John Kricfalusi and I was wondering if CBS had just lost their minds....

Always curious about these types of comments. What is rich? How much money should an individual be allowed to have? Who decides?

It's astounding to me how one album title permanently warped the way everyone spells a common phrase.

My issue with the Napster thing had nothing to do with whether artists should be paid for their work.  It had to do with the fact that the RIAA and Lars had to he dragged kicking and screaming out of a 60 year old business model. They had every opportunity to figure out how to monetize the internet, ride the wave of new technology. Instead they insisted that we all keep going to Sam Goody and buying albums and anyone who dares consume media in other ways will get their grandma sued.

Every opportunity to figure out how to monetize something that had only been in a significant amount of homes for less than 5 years?

How many years had VCRs been in homes before the studios figured out how to make money on home video sales/rentals?  Of course, they tried to use the courts to preserve their old business model in the Betamax case, but that win went to the consumer and the movie industry had to adapt quickly.
