Who thought Arizona would be this blue in May?

I may be old but I remember way back in 2016 when Clinton was so sure of her victory that she stopped campaigning in swing states and started investing resources in traditionally red states like Texas and Arizona. I wonder how that worked out for her.

Side note: Liz and Bern got 30%+ of the primary vote in Oregon this past week.  Seventy percent is not that great when you're the only viable candidate, Joe.  I'm guessing it's just a message, but don't take things for granted

Are you high?

Bernie was a popular candidate. Not the clear front runner and he dropped out of the race but as its not the actual election people are still gonna vote for him in the primary. Warren was also a viable candidate at one point.

70% is great under the circumstances.

Pretend you support Biden. Your state's primary comes up, and Biden is already guaranteed to win. Warren ended her campaign. Bernie told his supporters to support Biden in the general. A pandemic is underway.

Do you leave the house to vote for Biden?

I don't. Now, there are usually other bits on the ballet so I might still vote, but a lot of people only pay attention to the big ticket.

Obama got 58% of the primary vote in Kentucky in 2012 when nobody else was on the ballot while 42% of the votes went to uncommitted. Clearly an indictment of Obama/widespread support for Randall Terry who failed to get on the ballot in the state but was running against him, right?

Or, you know, it is a sign that an uncontested primary where the assumed winner is no longer attempting to turn out the vote is not going to end up with results reflective of the national mood.

Joe Biden could shiat his pants in the middle of 5th avenue and it wouldn't change a single vote against trump.

These are the last days of disco, red-hat. Live it up while you can.

Amusing response I saw to this.... "many black people already question whether black Trump supporters should be allowed at the BBQ." While people will be outraged, I'm sure there's also people thinking the same thing he said.

Lemme backtrack a bit.  I meant "viable" as "the only one who hadn't dropped out by the time of the election".  There was a fourth candidate, but I don't even remember who it was (Those three had 97%+).  What I meant was, 70% isn't that great when you're effectively the only one running.  When  almost a third of the party is voting against you, that's not a good sign.  People are saying, "Bernie's not running, but hell if I'm gonna vote for Biden".  I don't think there are that many Republicans that re-registered before the primary in order to do that.

the state's basically only paper (meaning, it's available statewide, whereas tucson and Flagstaff and some other towns have their own papers, but just in that city) said a few weeks ago, how McSally and other Republicans shot campaign ads last fall / early this year, of them standing (in some cases, literally) with trump, touting the economy.

then COVID hit, the economy turned to shiat, massive unemployment, and Trump's approval ratings took a shiat.  Guess you can't run those ads.

so they had to rebrand, and many of those same candidates, the joke was, "are socially distancing from Trump."  McSally's latest ads are about health care (which she voted to gut) and make zero mention of Trump.  a few others are doing the same;  they've got no time for Orange farkstick.

we could very well see the first blue AZ since 1996 i believe.  I don't think Joe was the best candidate, but anybody but trump.  so it looks like Joe it is for me.

Alternatively, the Bernie supporters will most likely vote Biden in the general, but feel they can still voice their preference in the primary.

It makes zero sense to assume a primary vote for candidate A means no general election vote for B. I would stake my salary that nearly all primary voters vote in the general.

I think a lot of black voters will find it offensive coming from the mouth of a white man, but at the same time probably agree with the sentiment.

Yeah, unless it's a heated primary, the general election will get more voters out.  I believe I heard that this election turned out fewer voters than usual; probably because Biden and Trump will be the candidates, and the elections for the other offices on the ballot and the measures on the ballot weren't big turner-outers.  Still, no reason not to vote when the ballot comes to your mailbox and postage is paid for your ballot to be returned.

primary voter participation was up substantially for the democrats.

democratic voter participation was up massively in 2018, with no reason to believe it won't continue to be in 2020
