As a child I watched him on the Donny & Marie Show, and even as a first grader I thought he was an odd cast member for that show. Funny, but an odd fit. A queer choice, one might say.

When I die, I would like to prank the still living in a manner similar to Uncle Arthur pranking the Stevens's.

Or at least pop in and bust on everyone before farking off.

Paul Lynde was just like my Uncle Art. Very gay, very campy, and just inside the closet door.

"Paul, what common item has 336 dimples on it?"

"The average weight watchers fanny."

BTW, you can watch on Amazon Prime, the Paul Lynde Halloween Special.  I think it is around 1976.  Just a weird, weird thing to see.

I remember watching the special just to see KISS. After that I started watching the Hollywood Squares. Of course, as a young lad, the gay jokes just flew over my head, but I thought he was awesome. Looking back now, he was ballsy as fark.

"Paul, when a man falls off a ship, people say 'MAN OVERBOARD!'.  What do they say when a woman falls off a ship?"

"FULL SPEED AHEAD!"

A few months ago, I saw "The Paul Lynde Show" on Antenna TV. I always enjoyed his persona but was unaware that he even had a TV show of his own.
This was the episode, It did not age well. Queued to maximum cringe (by modern standards):

He was a trip! Funny as Hell on HS, and Bewitched
Loved him as  Mildew Wolf .
I did a quick search for the story about him being a 'bit' intoxicated in Provincetown, MA but couldn't find it.

I still remember this one for some reason:

"Paul, what did the 'D' in "D-Day' stand for?

"Doris."

\ back when whole armies wanted to invade her

Before all this "pride" BS, lesbians were hot and gay men were funny.  Now, they're just tiresome.

In 1974 I was walking through Central Park and noticed him walking in my direction with a VERY young man by his side. We made eye contact as he passed by. It was a wordless exchange. He noticed I recognized him and slyly smiled and winked back, without letting his escort see. It made my day!

Lynde's behavior led to public-intoxication arrests and an incident where the actor launched into a drunken racist tirade at a Chicago Burger King.

Yep, one of those D&Ds was here in Salt Lake.

I'll bet you there's some good stuff that never made it through the censors.
