"Exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic to justify voter suppression is despicable, even for Judicial Watch's pathetically low standards," Padilla said in a statement.

Apparently someone still thinks there is a bottom to a Republican's shiathole.

"Issa piece of shiat."

2020-05-22 12:33:18 PM
Wait, is their position that vote by mail somehow suppresses votes?

2020-05-22 12:33:31 PM
Man they are really scared of increased voter turnout for some reason. I wonder why?

2020-05-22 12:33:31 PM
"Enabling everyone to vote harms my chances of winning and forces me to change my electoral strategy."

I assume he means being less of an obvious asshole.

I can see why Republicans are alarmed at the prospect of having to get elected on actual merit.

2020-05-22 12:33:36 PM
This guy is such a huge piece of shiat.  Why doesn't he have a lead role in the trump administration?

2020-05-22 12:34:49 PM
"Issa "registered to run for office based under the electoral system established by the California Legislature," the complaint says. "Now, he must develop a new strategy."

That's really saying the quiet part out loud, now isn't it. I mean, we all know that suppression and cheating is the only way the GOP can win, but I'm not sure telling a Judge that is a good idea.

2020-05-22 12:35:04 PM
They'll lose and appeal obtaining injunctions at every turn, effectively playing out the clock.

Butterflew: Wait, is their position that vote by mail somehow suppresses votes?

No, their position is that vote by mail makes it HARDER to suppress the vote, and that's what Issa's election strategy was.

"Issa "registered to run for office based under the electoral system established by the California Legislature," the complaint says. "Now, he must develop a new strategy."

2020-05-22 12:37:34 PM
He's just mad he and his brother can't sell the ballots and claim they were stolen.

2020-05-22 12:37:57 PM
Probably good that this gets sorted out now, rather than in November.  Unless Newsom is clearly violating a law or a constitutional clause, there's little chance a California judge, or the Ninth Circuit, will strike it down.  And, if he is actually violating a state law, the state legislature will have time to amend it before November.

Given how contentious an issue the GOP is making this out to be, I'm surprised that governors/stage AGs aren't proactively seeking declaratory judgments from courts, determining their actions are legal and constitutional.  I guess that would be giving too much credence to the GOP's arguments - i.e., suggesting they may actually be correct.

i understand you mark your ballot and send it back but how is it verified?  i read some mail in ballots were not counted due to the signatures not matching.  i can pretty much guarantee mine wouldn't match what is on my official registration card.  its changed since then,

TOP PEOPLE.

2020-05-22 12:39:58 PM
Man the Republicans really don't want people to vote do they?

This should be the default. Everyone that can vote gets a ballot in the mail you can send it in, or show up in person, your choice.

This, OMG you can't mail in voting, unless it is in heavily Republican districts, is just so much bullshiat.

That's a strategy in conservative states so they can blanket dismiss ballots from "those" areas.

Who was that piece of shiat in Cali who stole from the Wounded Warriors in a heavy military district? One of the voters they interviewed just trashed the shiat out of him for doing it, but said he couldn't vote for a Democrat no matter how qualified the candidate was. You literally are voting for a man who is a thief because the other guy has a (D) in front of his name.

It warns that election results could be invalidated, specifically citing the 50th District contest in which Issa is the Republican nominee.

My mother lived in the CA-50 and voted by mail for years. She's dead now so I'm not sure how she casts her ballot these days.

Butterflew: Wait, is their position that vote by mail somehow suppresses votes?

Their official position on the topic is SMOKE BOMB LOOK OVER THERE.  (They haven't really thought this through.)

Their real position on the topic is that anything that increases turn out helps the Democratic candidate and so must be stopped.

Russian trolls
American sociopaths who are easily influenced by Russian trolls

Treat both parties with the revulsion and resistance they both deserve.

Wasn't the only recently documented case of absentee ballot fraud done by republicans?

Seems like they should be leaving this alone & focusing on building their network of paid harvesters instead.

2020-05-22 12:51:55 PM

Butterflew: Wait, is their position that vote by mail somehow suppresses votes?

No. its that Issa didn't plan for mail in voters and it impacts his campaign strategy, but since voters have always been able to vote by mail - not sure if his argument holds water.  And not sure what the difference campaign wise it makes voting by mail or in person...

Why do you think the GOP has been working fanatically for decades to abolish the 17th Amendment (which allows citizens to directly vote for Senators instead of letting party operatives do the hand-picking)? Scum like Issa don't want you to have the right to vote at all.

I really wonder if the Courts are going to take this up. I wouldn't be surprised if they did and ruled in Issa's favor, since the courts seem hellbent on helping the GOP stay in power, but it seems like this case is a stretch.

There are two angles I see:

1) With it being easier to vote more people will vote and he will have to redirect resources to campaign for those votes.

2) With more people voting by mail, more people will vote earlier changing the timing of events and campaigning.

They are both garbage reasons, but they would make some sense if not for equally impacting both sides and making it easier for voters to vote and increasing turnout is a good thing.

I say do both, like always. Let the GOPers go stand in line. Then, when they loose then can blame it on something other than the mail in ballot thingy.

Because abortion! Republicans God. Liberals the Debbil!

Never mind that M4A and many liberal policies would lead to less abortions since most have one due to financial concerns.

Republicans are pro birth. And then they are pro death after that, unless you are a wealthy, landed, heterosexual male.

Smh.
