I'm in. Few musician open mikes.
We meet a few times a week. Hash out what we have been woodshedding.
I meet and play This way with musicians all over the world.
But feel free to hack in and listen.

Some of us are successful but might not sound too good if it is a new song, getting hashed out

How do you deal with the delay? Does one person have to mute the other person so they don't get distracted on timing?

Weirdly, there's a scene in Vinge's "Rainbows End" about almost that exact problem.

I don't use Zoom. Don't want it. Don't need it.

Most people have zero clue what goes into making this stuff work. In my career I have touched every aspect of IT infrastructure, from the bottom to the top all the way to my mother-in-law's new laptop. It continues to amaze me and I try to learn something new every day.

I can't say I enjoy dealing with cloud infrastructure, it's a bit too abstract for me. But if you have coin you can scale and boy has Zoom scaled. So, good for them, I hope success doesn't prove to be their undoing.

I use Zoom because Adobe Connect, Blackboard Collaborate, and Microsoft Teams are worse.

I use Zoom because it reminds me of Wreckx-n-Effect.

/It's all I wanna do.

I use Teams, Zoom and Webex for different things. Zoom has less friction. They are using Apple's core tenet that people-will-pay-more-to-not-read-the-manual. They will be right. And if you think they won't charge more down the road ... well, you're entitled to what you believe.

Zoom is also the bright-shiny-object and most people will want to use it since it's more "user friendly" which means "I am scared of computers because I am lazy and you are a computer person and yes I drove a car here and that doesn't mean I'm a car person and my nephew is great with computers and he uses Zoom because he is too poor to pay for anything because he's 12."

Which is fine. There is no law on what conferencing service to use. But I always have doubts when the people making technology decisions are the ones who absolutely refuse to do simple comparative analysis of the options because "they aren't a computer person."

But maybe I'm just scarred from putting a 12-step group on Webex in the last month.

My school district uses Google Meetings. I have access to Zoom, but we're so enmeshed in the G Suite it makes more sense to use Google Meet.

Wasnt Webex doing this stuff 12 years ago? Why is Zoom this big deal?

Because their friend's son didn't use it then (he's 11). Or their tech support guy at work (who keeps telling everyone they are stupid and the whole office should be on Linux) mentioned it once three years ago. Or their boss told them to "just figure it out" (he, and it's always a he, couldn't be bothered since he was busy printing out email) and yelled at them when they couldn't five minutes before a scheduled meeting six years ago.

Or computers are magic. Or something.

Because Zoom is easy to use, it mostly works and it has pretty great features.  Webex on the other hand...
