Funny how Democratic presidents always inherit economic disasters and hand off stable, flourishing economies to Republicans. Oh wait, I forgot economies take years to catch up to reality, especially when the president is black.

That's gonna happen.  Clinton handed off a booming economy with a plan in place to pay down the debt completely in a few years, which Dubya squandered.  Obama handed off a booming economy which Trump sabotaged and then the virus cut the legs from under it.

You know between now and election, right-wingers are going to be blaming the virus for everything from ruining the job market to running over their dog and sleeping with their spouse.

This reminds me of that Malcolm in the Middle episode where some bully nominates two krelboynes to be class president, so Dewey nominates the bully as well. Suddenly he realizes he might lose to a krelboyne and starts panicking at the debate screaming "I'M NOT SCREWING AROUND ANYMORE YOU HAVE TO VOTE FOR ME! PLEASE! WHATEVER YOU HEARD ABOUT ME IS A LIE! VOTE FOR ME DAMMIT JUST DO IT!"

It's because a Republican vote is a vote of luxury. When things are going well, and the last thing you want is the "punch bowl taken away;" you vote for the stupid candidate who doesn't promise anything other than cutting taxes. Inevitably, when their idiotic mindset and worldview tank the economy, you go crawling back to the boring, predictable candidate who promises nothing more than to fix the economy and save millions from catastrophe.

This is why Democratic presidents always hand off great economies to Republicans, and Republicans hand off disasters to Democrats. '92, '00, '08, '16...It's a trend at this point.

Or running over their spouse and sleeping with their dog.

Obama built it back up last time. Trump once again squandered his inheritance.

He inherited a good economy and managed not to fark it up until faced with an actual challenge that wasn't of his own making. That's literally the best that can be said of him.

He means the economy he inherited and the stock market he falsely inflated with a tax cut to rich people and corporations so they could do a big stock buy back? Yeah, let's just do that all again.

He said he alone could "fix" America 4 years ago ("fix" a country that had had 84 straight months of job growth and markets +150% over 8 years and 25 million more Americans had healthcare). Now look at it? It's like a dumpster fire compared to Nov 2016.

The Clinton economy was hurtling towards the dotcom crash regardless.  It already was the beginning before the handoff.  It had also sown the seeds of the real estate bubble, which had begun in the late 90s and continued into the 00s with a series of changes on financial regulations, loosening of loan guidelines, and favorable interest rates.  GWB made mistakes, surely, like getting us into a costly war in Iraq unnecessarily and handing out a freedom dividend, but he didn't receive a honkydory situation.

Obama, on the other hand, handed off a great economy on an upward trajectory that was well handled by a range of very educated people.

The thing with Bush is, he was coming down from a 90% approval rating, and the 2004 economy wasn't bad.  Trump coming in with 96,000 deaths and never having an approval rating over 50% his entire first term.

It reminds me of the right wing meme: Soft men lead to bad times>bad times lead to hard men>hard men lead to good times>good times lead to soft men.

They really think they're the hard men in this bit of wisdom they concocted.

trump should go with the MAGA theme again, blame former President Barack Obama for everything up til today, and pretend he didn't just spend a term in office.

which of his supporters would say or question anything? none of them, that's who.

Looking back, it's pretty apparent that Clinton was in large part "GWB if the shiat-hits-the-fan switch was set to off" and GWB was in many ways "Clinton is the shiat-goes-pear-shaped switch was set to yes."

I'm pretty sure all the smart economists were predicting a recession long before 'Rona came along.

Remember.  Being a "smart businessman" was supposed to be the trade off for all the horrific character traits of Trump.  All the racism, misogyny, homophobia, and general stupidity was supposed to be tolerated because he could be counted on to run the country efficiently.  And in a real crisis, he would be a steady hand while all those bumbling government fools flailed about.

But the pandemic has proven, once and for all, that all that mythology was bullshiat.  Trump is the LEAST competent leader in history.  He is a fraud, and always has been.  His reputation was manufactured by an idiotic reality show aimed at low intelligence Americans who are too stupid to even understand the way a smart manager actually behaves and leads.

My employer did everything they could to not reduce headcount. So yesterday they did a deep cut, reducing by 30%. Infosec and privacy took a huge hit. I was not part of the skeleton crew.

The whitehouse has no plan for recovery. Even if it the Dems flip all the things this is going to be a slow recovery.

If I was President, I'd probably be a shiatty one. I'd probably just be a smarter George W. Bush, and by smart I mean I'd be smart enough to know I shoudn't be here so when some expert guy came storming into the Oval Office telling me we need to do something, my go to response would be to tell him to make a plan and I'll sign off on it. That already makes me a better President than Trump cause even when I'm doing nothing, I'd still have somebody doing all the work for me. Trump can't even do that most of the time.
