(The Takeout)   Shoppers are ditching their primary grocery stores during the pandemic. This is good for local/ethnic markets   (thetakeout.com) divider line

The middle Eastern stores around here have a great stock of rice, beans and other staples. Kroger still looks like the USSR in those aisles.

My primary store is Winco, I still do most of my shopping there. I do shop at Sprouts Farmer's Market more than usual, it is smaller and has good quality produce.

The local Asian Megamart, Grand Asia Market, is pretty great, and I hit up the local Hispanic grocery for beans, rice, and spicy stuff...

What the world needs now is more people eating bats.

I still go to the local supermarket and get what I need, but I am due for a trip to the local Asian store for odds and ends soon.
I have to say, Trader Joes was the most tame and sane shopping I have done for months.
Line in at the door, store not too crowded, most usual stock available, people wearing masks and staying apart without issue... it was like adults would act if they were asked to for good reason.

I got a schittload of sardines.

The ethnic markets also supply the local restaurants of their type. So, you can usually find a decent stock of cleaning/sanitizing supplies, paper goods, gloves, even TP if you're still looking.

I went to the local Asian market a couple weeks ago, and there were more white people than asians...which was very unusual.

Lots of mexican butchers here and I know a few people that started going. Said it reminds them of old time butcher shops.
