Howard used to have Trump on his show because Trump was more of a pervert than he was. Stern never supported Trump for President and was never a right winger.

'Hollywood Howard'

I see Jr has inherited his dad's knack for throwing out oh-so-clever nicknames for people.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Trump's cult turn on Stern.

Is "Hollywood Howard" his scathing nickname for Stern?  Is it supposed to be a dig at Stern for being a sellout?  A member of the Trump family ... mocking Stern for being a sellout?  A family that has known nothing about living life as anything else?

I mean, I shouldn't be surprised in the slightest -- and I'm not, really.  It's more ... just ... sad.  Really sad and pathetic.  Like the kid in grade school trying hard to be bully his way around despite the fact that you know full well that he could clearly be beaten to a pulp by a groggy gerbil.  Except it's possible to feel sorry for the bully kid.

The man who flies a private jet all around the word to shoot endangered species for "fun"  thinks he can speak for Stern's "working class fanbase"?  Well, even for Jr. that's pretty breathtaking cluelessness

To be fair though, "Breathtaking cluelessness" accurately defines the entire Trump presidency, his administration (and the GOP in general), his entire immediate family including his porcelain doll-in-law, and the base that supports the lot of them.  I mean, they voted for Trump because he's "for the working man," even though the only blue collar he's ever had was a present for Ivanka...

Trump is a mean self-centered asshole.  Howard Stern is an accomplished, world class, virtuoso asshole.  You can't really compare the two.  Howard Stern's assholery is an order of magnitude above Trump's sad, sorry level.  Minimum.  Maybe 2 orders.  It's like comparing a dime store harmonica to a Stradivarius.  The thought alone is absurd.

I'm more amazed at people claiming Trump is good at business because of The Apprentice and somehow think a "real businessman" would make a tv "competition" that has degrading and humiliating physical challenges to pick his next "protégée."

I'm sure Franklin would be more than happy to know that Trump wants to hand the USPS over to private industry when it was created for ALL US citizens.

But the difference is that Stern doesn't believe his own bullshiat. He knows that there's reality and entertainment, and they aren't necessarily the same. Obviously assholery sells, it seems to be American's favorite hobby, but Stern has always known where the line was.

Trump, however, thinks that life is based on TV ratings and cares for nothing but himself. He's a genuine asshole, one that's such a huge asshole that there isn't even another side of the coin as with Stern. That's who he is. Period. Selfish, stupid, cruel, incurious, and lazy.

Stern is an intentional asshole, and I understand that. We've all done intentionally asshole-y things but we don't make it how we define ourselves.

But Trump is an inadvertent asshole, which is much worse. It's in his DNA. People like that used to be banished from society for everyone's betterment.

Howard Stern knows he's an entertainer.

Donald Trump's ego convinced him he was something more than an entertainer. And now he will go down in history as beloved by a small group of people too ignorant to know they were wrong or too emotionally invested to admit it, and reviled by everyone else in the world.

His character is totally a douche.  The "Howard Stern" persona, like Marcus pointed out, is a finely honed and expertly tuned douche that may as well have been crafted by the gods themselves.  It is a Super Douche like the cars I could never afford to look at, hand-built by German virgins, and that even the world's foremost drivers would take through corners with nothing less than fearful respect.  All that to say, the character Howard inhabits was created by a master.  Stern is objectively brilliant.  His persona on his show is that of a total douche, but that belies the fact that it was created and perfected by an artist who fully understands his medium and knows exactly how to extract and make shine its very essence with the flawless ease of a true master.

I'd venture to guess that lots of his fans actually think he's that way - and probably model their behavior similarly.
I had no idea he wasn't a complete arse until I heard that interview.  Nearly changed it too, when I heard who it was, but Terry Gross' interviews are usually stellar so I kept it on - and tuned back in the next day for part 2.

People in the 80s thought a washed up actor would make a great president.  The people of Palm Springs, FL thought electing the divorced, washed up half of a 60s husband-and-wife singing duo would make a great mayor.  The people of Minnesota thought a washed up WWF star, attempted actor, and conspiracy nutjob would make a great governor.

Appeal to Celebrity may be a logical fallacy, but there are still a lot of people that mistake celebrity for capability.

Donald Trump's ego convinced him he was something more than an entertainer. And now he will go down in history as beloved by a small group of people too ignorant to know they were wrong or too emotionally invested to admit it, and reviled by everyone else in the world.

Trump's base will not listen to one word from Stern.  My God, during the 2016 election they saw and heard to trump act like a complete amoral pig on his show.  Bragged about all the hot tail he got, would date his own daughter and that she has a great body.  All that changed when Pence became his VP and then, poof, Trump became a godly man.  And thats just on Stern.  The base saw Trump on playboy, his 5 kids with 3 wives, bash POWs and Gold Star Families and payed off a Porn Star for sex.

None of that matters to the base.  They are no longer republican voters, they are a cult and a death cult at that. Trump promised to make them rich, pay off the debt, make the Whites all powerful again and force the world into US submission.  None of which is even remotely coming true and they don't care.

The only silver lining in this is that one day Trump will be out of power and Democrats will gain back control of our govt.  And hopefully, the flood gates will open and we will see all the crap Trump and his flunkies pulled in office and Republicans let it happen to keep him in office and the base happy.

Assuming of course Trump doesnt take us all down with him.

I find it very difficult to believe that Trump would give his name to a son he even slightly suspected of not being his biologically.  After all, he stated that he was worried about giving him his name because of the potential that Junior might be a 'loser'.

Also, Ivana doesn't seem like the adulterous type, especially that early in her marriage.

There are many photos of Junior as a child with blondish hair, looking more like his siblings. I might suspect that he dyes his hair black now, but then he has that extremely dark facial hair, so I dunno.

Let's see what happens after Trump is out office, shall we?  I guarantee SiriusXM is begging Stern for another 5 years while the Trump clan will be ostracized from every social circle imaginable.
And Junior is in a Twitter war with a guy who makes $80-90 million/year farting into a microphone and interviews naked women on the radio.  There's no comparing who's more successful.

High school bullies wouldn't be that if they didn't have followers to back them up. Bullies make themselves look strong by first attacking people who can't fight back and them getting their followers to attack people who ARE strong enough. This dynamic is bad enough until one of them becomes the goddam President...

I was never a listener, and just through the bits I heard ("shock jock" etc) I thought he was a total douche.  I caught his 2-part interview with Terry Gross on NPR's fresh air and was totally surprised.  Guy is not a douche at all.

My mom used to hate Stern's guts until one night we saw him out with Beth... just walking down the street together, arm-in-arm, completely oblivious to everyone gawking away. She turned the corner on him as a person after that... she still can't stand his shtick, but she recognizes that's exactly what it is, and doesn't have any bearing on him in real life.

Indeed, and even he was light years better than Trump, despite the SDI ("Star Wars") turkey, Reganomics, etc.  He did, at least, work earnestly to end the cold war instead of bluster and bravado his way to "winning," or worse, cozy up to dictators, so he had that going for him, which was nice.

Psychopusher: Is "Hollywood Howard" his scathing nickname for Stern?  Is it supposed to be a dig at Stern for being a sellout?  A member of the Trump family ... mocking Stern for being a sellout?  A family that has known nothing about living life as anything else?

I mean, I shouldn't be surprised in the slightest -- and I'm not, really.  It's more ... just ... sad.  Really sad and pathetic.  Like the kid in grade school trying hard to be bully his way around despite the fact that you know full well that he could clearly be beaten to a pulp by a groggy gerbil.  Except it's possible to feel sorry for the bully kid.

Christ, that reminds me of a "bully" I once knew.

My junior high had plenty. I was the protector of some of the kids who were bullied, which made me a target.

We had a guy who drove himself to his junior high graduation, now that was a proper bully. Bigger and stronger enough to be worth the time.

However, then there was Tyler.

Tyler was the triad. Fat, dumb and mean.

Behold a typical exchange:

"Give me your homework so I can copy it."
"Nah, not happening."
"I'll kick your ass."
"Not happening."

I had probably 3 inches of height, 20 pounds of muscle and 60 IQ points on him during this exchange. He tried punching me, and I've been hit harder than that with a massage. I just laughed and walked away.

I'd think Half-Scoop has had the same exact exchange. I wonder how many times he's pulled the "don't you know who my daddy is?" card.

And now the right wing has banished his memory from their collective consciousness.  It started about a decade ago, when nakedly blatant racism returned in the GOP, and was mostly due to the amnesty he had granted to Latino immigrants. Even Ann Coulter disavowed him.

That's a shockingly dumb thing to say.

Stern ain't liberal. Stern has fought for free speech for years going all the way back to terrestrial radio. Sterns isn't anti-gun. He's licensed and carries. Stern's audience certainly overlaps DT voters.

Gosh... it's like you tried to find the dumbest thing to say and just dug right in. Good for you... I guess.

Stern always knew the lines, and even he would cringe when he crossed them...Stern has self awareness

Trump has none of that.

2020-05-21 12:53:36 PM
Keep in mind, the Trump family has been buying into its own bullshiat for decades now. There is no outside influence. There are no lines of dissension anywhere to snap these people back into reality. If somebody has a non complementary View of the Trump family then obviously they are broken somehow.
