Howard used to have Trump on his show because Trump was more of a pervert than he was. Stern never supported Trump for President and was never a right winger.

'Hollywood Howard'

I see Jr has inherited his dad's knack for throwing out oh-so-clever nicknames for people.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if Trump's cult turn on Stern.

Is "Hollywood Howard" his scathing nickname for Stern?  Is it supposed to be a dig at Stern for being a sellout?  A member of the Trump family ... mocking Stern for being a sellout?  A family that has known nothing about living life as anything else?

I mean, I shouldn't be surprised in the slightest -- and I'm not, really.  It's more ... just ... sad.  Really sad and pathetic.  Like the kid in grade school trying hard to be bully his way around despite the fact that you know full well that he could clearly be beaten to a pulp by a groggy gerbil.  Except it's possible to feel sorry for the bully kid.

The man who flies a private jet all around the word to shoot endangered species for "fun"  thinks he can speak for Stern's "working class fanbase"?  Well, even for Jr. that's pretty breathtaking cluelessness

To be fair though, "Breathtaking cluelessness" accurately defines the entire Trump presidency, his administration (and the GOP in general), his entire immediate family including his porcelain doll-in-law, and the base that supports the lot of them.  I mean, they voted for Trump because he's "for the working man," even though the only blue collar he's ever had was a present for Ivanka...

Trump is a mean self-centered asshole.  Howard Stern is an accomplished, world class, virtuoso asshole.  You can't really compare the two.  Howard Stern's assholery is an order of magnitude above Trump's sad, sorry level.  Minimum.  Maybe 2 orders.  It's like comparing a dime store harmonica to a Stradivarius.  The thought alone is absurd.

More like Trump was just desperate for attention all the damn time and Stern's show is literally a shiatty tabloid in radio form.

I'm more amazed at people claiming Trump is good at business because of The Apprentice and somehow think a "real businessman" would make a tv "competition" that has degrading and humiliating physical challenges to pick his next "protégée."

I'm sure Franklin would be more than happy to know that Trump wants to hand the USPS over to private industry when it was created for ALL US citizens.

But the difference is that Stern doesn't believe his own bullshiat. He knows that there's reality and entertainment, and they aren't necessarily the same. Obviously assholery sells, it seems to be American's favorite hobby, but Stern has always known where the line was.

Trump, however, thinks that life is based on TV ratings and cares for nothing but himself. He's a genuine asshole, one that's such a huge asshole that there isn't even another side of the coin as with Stern. That's who he is. Period. Selfish, stupid, cruel, incurious, and lazy.

Stern is an intentional asshole, and I understand that. We've all done intentionally asshole-y things but we don't make it how we define ourselves.

But Trump is an inadvertent asshole, which is much worse. It's in his DNA. People like that used to be banished from society for everyone's betterment.

Howard Stern knows he's an entertainer.

Donald Trump's ego convinced him he was something more than an entertainer. And now he will go down in history as beloved by a small group of people too ignorant to know they were wrong or too emotionally invested to admit it, and reviled by everyone else in the world.

His character is totally a douche.  The "Howard Stern" persona, like Marcus pointed out, is a finely honed and expertly tuned douche that may as well have been crafted by the gods themselves.  It is a Super Douche like the cars I could never afford to look at, hand-built by German virgins, and that even the world's foremost drivers would take through corners with nothing less than fearful respect.  All that to say, the character Howard inhabits was created by a master.  Stern is objectively brilliant.  His persona on his show is that of a total douche, but that belies the fact that it was created and perfected by an artist who fully understands his medium and knows exactly how to extract and make shine its very essence with the flawless ease of a true master.

Trump, Jr. tweeted right back, saying that "Hollywood Howard" had turned his back on his blue-collar fan base. As a result, said the president's oldest son, "more people will see this tweet than listen to his show."

So he's bad at math too.

BTW, why are we all still being asked to pretend that he's Trump's biological son?

I think he did it too well!
I'd venture to guess that lots of his fans actually think he's that way - and probably model their behavior similarly.
I had no idea he wasn't a complete arse until I heard that interview.  Nearly changed it too, when I heard who it was, but Terry Gross' interviews are usually stellar so I kept it on - and tuned back in the next day for part 2.

Adams, the guy who suggested that Jefferson was syphilitic from sleeping with too many French whores, and who made sure to call Hamilton a bastard son of a "Scotch peddler" (a big deal in 18th century America)?

Jefferson, the guy who said Hamilton was a cross-dresser?

Hamilton, the guy who'd write a 60-page broadsheet to call his own mom a biatch if she worked to oppose his political plans?

Franklin, the guy too busy banging French whores to really care what was said about him?

We're basing what we do on their feelings?

People in the 80s thought a washed up actor would make a great president.  The people of Palm Springs, FL thought electing the divorced, washed up half of a 60s husband-and-wife singing duo would make a great mayor.  The people of Minnesota thought a washed up WWF star, attempted actor, and conspiracy nutjob would make a great governor.

Appeal to Celebrity may be a logical fallacy, but there are still a lot of people that mistake celebrity for capability.
