A widening lead in the overall national poll is good. It should also directly translate into the projection of who will will the election.

However, as long as the Electoral College exists, there's always going to be a wild card factor. The College is an anachronism that has long outlived any reason for it to exist.

Agreed, but this time around Trump has a hell of a lot more baggage and PA, MI and WI all have Dem governors. That's going to be helpful in terms of the secretaries of state not being in his pocket

It's been very smart of Biden to not be too far out there at this point.

You want to let this catastrophic quagmire stew, and stew, and stew, and give everyone time to think about it.

There is zero point to peaking in summer.

Outlived? In the last election, it decisively refuted its only remotely defensible reason to exist.

Asked who would do a better job handling the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic, voters chose Biden by a sixteen-point margin, 55 - 39 percent.

39% think ignoring the problem and calling it a hoax then pushing bogus and potentially dangerous "cures" is a better job.

Shocked they don't mention Biden is leading Trump among black voters 81-3.

It would be 81-1 if you removed Diamond and Silk

I may be mathing wrong but doesn't that also mean 5% of people think Biden would do a better job but still support Trump?

That's great, but I'll wait for the other polls. Or November 4, whichever is later.

I'm inclined to agree with this seriously to a point. Hillary had like a 3 million lead in votes and yet the Electoral College swooped in Trump. I'm seriously thinking that unless the Electoral College is dealt with we'll get another four years of Trump. I don't think this country could last another four years like that yet the GOP is pushing for it.

Does this factor in GOP shenanigans in swing states on or near election day?

Trump's support has been floating around the low-40s for his entire term, and there's never been any indication it would drop lower. America needs an enema.

\and remember, low-40s is enough to win the election, due to America's stupid voting system that values land over people.

That's promising news, but 2016 should have taught us that complacency is death. Gotta keep fighting like we're ten points behind until it's over.

2020-05-21 9:39:56 AM
Great, this means I don't have to get to the polling station in November, right?  I mean it's so inconvenient, and Biden is gonna win anyway.

Pay no attention to these numbers.  At least 40% of the electorate...minimum...will vote for Trump, no matter what.  And they will vote. His base sees poll numbers like this and think, "It's an Obama/Hillary trick to convince me to stay home."

One more time, pay no attention to poll numbers. YOU MUST GET OUT AND VOTE.

Twice in 16 years the slave-state appeasing anachronism called the Electoral College installed a Republican over the popular vote.

Trump doesn't need to win the popular vote - he only needs to win a couple swing states. States proven susceptible to blatant propaganda and assuredly lacking solid security in their vote tabulation soft and hardwares.

Yep.

2020-05-21 9:47:19 AM
Trump and his enthralled GOP are incapable of acting in any way that will positively influence "swing voters"

His natural tendencies have his deplorable base totally captive, but who cares about those assholes? They are a vociferous 20%, squeaky wheels that were never in question. It is the group that gives him unconditional adoration and worship, in defiance of facts and logic, but they won't hand him another term.

The ones who gave Trump his 2016 victory were the uninformed (the ones who thought the President was just a figurehead, so why not elect reality TV guy?), the moderates (at the time, apathetic and not understanding the consequences of their actions, counting on checks and balances to reign in his worst impulses), and the disaffected who thought burning it all down would be a good thing (well, how did that turn out?). Most of those types, the so-called "Independents" know better this time around. Does anybody think they'll give him another term?  Trump and his cronies refuse to pander to these voters, which is puzzling until you realize the GOP has been taken over by complete morons and is headed by an imbecile.

This underscores the importance of voting. poll numbers mean nothing. It captures a subset of voters who are willing to participate in polls, which is not a lot of the smarter voters. Just get out and VOTE.

My state is roughly a 30/30/30 dem/rep/unaffiliated split, so probably not. Trump is maxing 30-35% tops.

The Dems are serving up dogshiat and because there's a little blue dye in it you are slurping it up, yum yum yum. I'll vote for that senile war-mongering corporate ass grabbing creep because god help us Trump is worse but don't ask me to toss Biden's salad you dumbshiat

I doubt most of them 'think' that.  More like they're on Team Trump, and will choose him always, regardless of facts or truth, and gladly lie to prove their loyalty to the Terrible Treason Toddler.

I (we) so agree with this.  It's the old axiom for baseball:  having a winning streak early in the season is no where near as important as being hot the last month.  Law low, let the Fat Twit keep saying stupid things (a guarantee).  I usually DVR all the tv stuff, I watched out of interest a couple of Fat Twit spots the other day.  They will appeal to the Fat Twits stupid level thinkers, intelligent people won't be swayed.  In the end game the second bump (which is already happening) in the virus spread and the continued (which is a given) economic mess will be determinative.

There are already too many stupid Fat Twit tweets and videos of his moronic statements about to be able to gather them all into anything short of a 3 hour political spot.  Picking the best ones will be epic.
