(Tech Times)   Drew's time travel tale was picked up by Tech Times, and while they do say he was joking, they also sort of seem to think, "You know, this guy just might be legit"   (techtimes.com) divider line

There is a non zero chance that Drew Curtis is your father.

There is a non zero chance that he's every farker's father.

Of course he's legit. Where do you think all that Fark income has gone? A website is cheap. People pay to belong and supply the content for free. A few slave laborers put the stories up and take the comments down. And then Fark pulls in billions upon billions in user contributions. All of that has been channeled into time travel advancements. Study it out.

Drew is lots of things.

"Legit" isn't even near the top of the list.

I wish he'd stop horning in on my gig.

The Endless Space PC game has a whole race based on this idea.

Where's my child support for all those years then, Drew?
I'll take it in the form of a lifetime TF account. Or we can settle in court.

2016 certainly was a better year than every year since, IMHO.

History is hard.

History is chaos.

Prophecy is easy.

Predict a date or time, or an event, but not both. Avoid like the plague all attempts to rope in chaos and old night with specifics.

Drew lucked into a nearly perfect prophecy in the time of the Chaos Goblin, only recently named by that epithet.

in 2015, while parodying 2016 prophecies, he predicted a) Trump would exist and b) there would be chaos. But he never named the (almost) unnamable virus or ever said President Fake News, that I am aware.

It is a known law that all prophecies are good at predicting the known past, and increasingly vague and impressionistic when predicting the unpredictable present and the unknown and inconceibale future.

The Book of Daniel very accurately predicts the four Empires before the date at which it was written or probably written. The future, not so much, and never quite so clearly. Same for Nostradumbass and the Revelation of Saint John the Divine, which ever Saint John he was, almost certainly not Saint John the Divine, Belovèd of Our Lord and Keeper of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Trump had already announced his run for President.

When Laugh In's Fickle Finger of Fate pointed to President Reagan in the late 1970s, it was only three or four years in the future for Governor Reagan of California. Looks brilliant, but any hack writer could have done it as well, but not writing for such a good show.

Like Molière, Drew is smart enough and funny enough, and dammit non-trolls like him. Also, he is on the side of the mockers, which is the right place to be.

For an AI translation of an article written by an AI trained for "trending" topics, I found it mostly readable.

If I were a time traveler and accidentally, maybe after a few too many bourbons, made a prediction that demonstrated that fact, the first thing I would do is deny it vehemently.

Of course Fark has time travel technology.  Why do you think all our posts start out stamped "Less than a minute from now"?

2020 predictions:

'Rona dies out for the summer.  Screams back come fall, along with regular flu.  Half million dead from both by January 1.

Stonks tank.  Oil nosedives again, too.

At least 3 major US cities see serious riots.  1968 type riots.  Whole neighborhoods burn, people killed.

Before accepting nomionation, Joe Biden suffers a debilitating illness and opts out of the race.  Probably a stroke, or heart condition.  He survives, but is incapacitated.

Democratic nomination thrown into chaos.  Nominee won't be a Clinton or an Obama.  Cumo won't run due to nursing home/COVID death controversy.  "Dark Horse" candidate emerges to win nomination.

At least one, but probably two major US airlines completely fold (Delta or United will be one)  American Airlines survives, but with major cutbacks.  Southwest sneaks away with a respectable profit given the times.

Trump does not win re election.  Assuming his health holds up, and he can make a run of it.  He retires for a year, then comes back out to host a new show called "Presidential Apprentice".

Lisa Simpson wins the Nobel Peace Prize.

I hope things get better after 2020.  2018 into 2019 was a total shietShow for me front to back and side to side.  At least from a health standpoint.  I go for a fresh battery of tests tomorrow to see if I'm growing a tumor, or my liver decided to quit before I did.

Not necessarily.  How do you know that isn't why those other "better headlines" submitted for years before didn't make it to the mains?

Because your computer isn't configured to use a network time server?

There's an old old game called Lightspeed that had a whole race of just one alien.  It kept jumping back in time gathering more copies of itself as it went until it was a whole species.
